If you have the problem, as I do in 1809, 17763.55, then the problem is specific to how Windows handles opening .zip files. It seems to be hard-wired to only allow Explorer. It doesn't appear to have anything to do with what you try to register for opening .zip files.
    Try OpenWithAdd:

Thanks for all the comments and advice, but everyone missed in this post Unable to register 7zip to open zip files that after a new installation of 7-zip, the selected file extensions were registered through the Tools\Options but it did not install the context menu. In the same post, I pointed out that opening a .zip file is no longer a problem, but creating a zip file without the context menu is almost impossible. And, that's where the problem lies. I also tried to install it it with Right Click Context Menu Adder 2.0.exe, but nothing happened.

As for the the browsers' inability to connect to the web, was caused by the removal of KB4462919. However, some time after, Windows update warned me about this missing update and re-installed it immediately, and then the browsers reconnected. Assume this update may have had something to do with the Windows firewall, but I could be wrong.

By the way, my version of Windows 10 is 1803, so a number of recommendations do not apply.

I can only wish you good luck struggling with MS's bugs. As noted, I think, KB4462919 is associated with default association issues.

There is a tutorial which allows you to hide (stop) specific updates.
Window Update Minitool (free) can also be used to do this.

Build 1709 works well for me.

Maybe I have missed it, but did you run 7zFM.exe as admin when changing setting?

By the way I use this to add context menu without even opening 7-zip.
    Code:
    reg add "HKCU\Software\7-Zip\Options" /v "CascadedMenu" /t "REG_DWORD" /d "1" /f
    reg add "HKCU\Software\7-Zip\Options" /v "ContextMenu" /t "REG_DWORD" /d "262" /f

Get WinRAR. It's easy. It does everything. Every type of archive you can imagine.

Select file(s) to be compressed. Right-click. Send to archive. Done.

Select file to be un-compressed. Right-click. Extract here, or extract to folder. Done.

I've never found a better zipper than WinRAR.

Thanks Margrave55, think that I will do that since I tried everything under the sun and it's time to give up on 7-Zip.

As for everyone else, thanks for trying to help. It's much appreciated.
