Pango Screen Dimmer | Tray Color | Visually Impaired

I have been using pango screen dimmer
PangoBright screen dimming utility, from Pangolin Laser Systems
with an HP Z23N turned to portrait mode.

Pango is the only app I know of that sits in the tray and allows keystroke control of the brightness levels. The needed settings vary as the daylight and what's on the screen changes. Other dimming solutions do not offer the same control and flexibility, as far as I know. I went over this in detail after an Unbutu update killed an even better solution a couple of years ago. Developers then could not suggest an alternate or any solution. Not long after that I turned to Windows.

    Pango worked fine this am.
Now suddenly it will not load. I have downloaded a fresh instance a couple of times. Same story, running as Admin and User.

    Additionally
My windows tray has turned to a light color with a fade line running from the center of the tray on the left to a bit short of dead center. See the bottom of the screen print below

I am wondering if a Window 10 update squirreled the app and altered the tray colors?

    Any fixes? Alternates?

When you installed it, did you set it for Windows 7 compatibility? The web site did not mention Windows 8, 8.1 or 10.
Also look at Windows Update History and see if a update was recently applied. If so, uninstall it and see if that helps.

I just downloaded and ran it, works okay for me. I'm on Win 10 Pro X64 Version 1809 OS Build 17763.55.

Hi, there are various progs that do that sort of thing.

Volume2 (free) - as just one of its functions- has by default Win key + rt/left arrow to adjust brightness.

Another lets you adjust volume by hovering over the taskbar and scrolling, and by pressing a key and scrolling when anywhere on the screen.

    Controls are user configurable.

Another much older option is Volumouse (free). also offers scroll control of brightness, volume when a presettable key is pressed.

    Rich.

First I am using the free / home edition of Windows 10 so maybe that is the difference between what you get and what I get?

I took your suggestion and looked at the updates. I am lost but I think the one yesterday may be the source of the killing of my Pango?

I have downloaded your two alternates but not yet installed them.

Could you give me some guidance for a workaround/ reversal?

What might the implications of a reversal?

    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Michael

They are all Windows Defender (your anti-virus) updates. I don't see that causing problems with Pango. What do the other sections of Update history show?

For brightness control I use this:

    Download BrightnessTray 1.2.2

This is Volumouse (free) - brightness control via press (user selected) key and scroll - no clicks or mouse movement:

It shows the slider as an indication only of the setting and response to pressing the key and scrolling.
I.e. you don't put your pointer on the slider and drag it.

Volumouse can do more.. like, yes, volume.

    Sorry for the delay.

All I see is that the latest update is V 1803. Is that what you wanted?

There are four other categories: and all the topics in the Event Viewer.
Would any of these for the same time frame help?Pango Screen Dimmer | Tray Color | Visually Impaired-updates.page..png

Sorry if I missed something: I am in a big rush this morning.

Hi, the dates of those updates don't relate to the date of your experiencing the problem.

Can you check the dates of the driver updates?

Does the screen appear normal if you boot to Safe Mode?
