I miswrote and should clarify that I would like to use the Explorer tab features of QTTabBar without all of the other features so, in addition to turning off the preview tooltip and subfolder options, is there anything else extra hidden away?

I found that the image/text/sound preview tooltips, while useful, seem to slow Explorer down while displaying the data. I also found that QTTabBar does have some quirks and bugs that arise while trying to integrate into Explorer that might be able to be solved with just a little more attention, but, unfortunately, the author of the program seems to post new versions for a short time then abandon the program for many month stretches and apparently requests for help fall on deaf ears. Fortunately, the tabs part works ok so I can live with just that aspect of the program.

    Thanks!
It's hard to say what's "hidden". I think you can go through the options & uncheck just about everything except the tabs. Under "General", you will find a button near the bottom to "Export now". So every time you find that you've disabled what you want & it still works, I'd save the options.

    Speed up Windows File Explorer

Is there a way to speed up Windows File Explorer when it opens? When I open a new folder, it takes a while for it to scan the files in it, where I can then start clicking on things or do any action after that.

I think this slowness might come from QtTabBar, because it offers Video and Audio preview of files when you hover the mouse cursor over files.

    Has anyone else experienced this?

It's mostly when I open a folder that contains video files (I think). I recorded Windows File Explorer Behavior. Is there a way to upload a video file somewhere so you can see what happens?

Have you tried opening that folder with/without thumbnails?

You can upload a video to any suitable site then post a link.. I believe there's a limit to the size of forum attachments. (E.g. Go Advanced. paperclip icon). There are forum usage guidelines from links at the top.

That is in fact what I suspect is slowing everything down. I don't want to get rid of Thumbnails though. I find it very useful when looking for a specific image or a specific PDF document.

QTTabBar offers the preview of an Audio file or a Video file when you hover the mouse over a file. Perhaps disabling this specific feature would do the trick? Is that even possible?

On another note, is there a keyboard shortcut that can pop out a tab from the current File Explorer Window? In the Keyboard Shortcuts option pane, there is "Open current folder in new window", which does most of what I want. The part that's missing is then to close the tab in the previous window. Is there perhaps an option I might have missed?

Hi, it's not clear if you've actually tried disabling thumbnails as an experiment- or that you only suspect it.

One way to determine whether Qttabbar has any impact is simply to
    a. back up its settings (so you can readily have it running as it was)
    - you could also create a System Restore point, but I'd back up the settings anyway
    b. uninstall it

I've not experienced this problem myself.

I can't add anything more on your other point.

I uninstalled and reinstalled QTTabBar. The issue left and came back on reinstallation. I disabled Thumbnail Preview, and the issue remained also (I was surprised).

Is there a way for me to share a video file. It would make it crystal clear the issue I'm trying to describe. I even managed to shrink the 20 second video file to 700KB, which is reasonable.
