Is this thread also for regular questions about QT?
Let me know if it isn't and I should ask elsewhere?
I do have a question, and for now I'll post it here since this seems to be an active thread that is read by people willing and able to help:
I am looking to configure QT to have separate and independent left vs. right panels. (like Total Commander)
Each with their own tabs.
Can that be done with QT?
I tried it using 'Extra View (left)', but when I open that, the 'QT Command Bar (vertical)' closes, and I need that one.

hmm, this is annoying, trying to create a new post, but the forum engine integrates it in a previous post as an update. Messy.
Trying to understand what is happening exactly: after clicking [Browse] for icon, obviously an explorer window should open that enables you to navigate to a folder location/icon file.
When NirSoft hangs after clicking [Browse], it's obviously waiting for such a window to open. But no explorer windows opens, so it hangs and keeps waiting forever.
So without QT installed such a window opens, and with QT installed it doesn't. (for me)
I have no clue where to look to solve this. Perhaps other installed software plays some role/interferes here (such as OpenShell, Total Commander, etc.)
Or maybe it needs some registry edit.
Perhaps other bright minds have some ideas?
I'm afraid I have no idea. Indeed if you look at the screen grabs I posted you get the standard windows icon update dialogue which you can then go on to search for an icon file. I use Open Shell so it's not that. I don't use Total Commander.
In answer to your earlier post I've never used Extra View so can't comment on how that works.
I don't know if this will help because I don't use extra views, but QTTabBar does have grouping. That is, you can open two Explorer windows & then have a button that will allow you to open any tabs that you have predetermined. For example, I often copy Outlook.pst between two computers, so I have both Explorer windows open on my 2nd desktop (so they don't get in the way), like this:
I also have File Types Manager (& QTTabBar 1043), but haven't had it hang. But I'm not sure what you mean by waiting for NirSoft to open an Explorer window. When I start File Types Manager, it loads all the icons on the left side. Then I can type whatever extension I want (e.g. "doc"), it gets selected, & then I can change any property, including the icon.
Is that what you're doing?
- presumably referring to the window opened to browse - which will not be an instance of file explorer though..But no explorer windows opens, so it hangs and keeps waiting forever.
It's just that some of those 'browse' windows my look a bit like file explorer.. yet have nothing to do with the process explorer.exe. Using the term 'explorer window' is what raises the question. That's all - terminology / clarity.
