QTTabBar Updates

Does anybody know how to change the outline color of a tab in QTTabBar? I'm attempting to use QTTabBar with the Windows File Explorer Dark theme (Windows version 1809, build 17763.134), but I feel that the white outlines are a little harsh (I would prefer a bit of a darker gray).



Does anybody know how to change the tab outline color? I can't seem to find it under "Appearance."

Unfortunately it seems QTTabBar is causing momentary freezes. Once every three minutes, the svchost process governing "RPC Endpoint Mapper" and "Remote Procedure Call (RPC)" will use up the entirety of a core for a thread with the start address "sechost.dll!StartServiceW+0x60" and the entire computer will 'lag' for about a second or two.

Eventually I figured out that it was only happening when the explorer.exe process was running (whether or not the file explorer was open). I uninstalled QTTabBar using the 1038 setup file and sure enough, that particular svchost.exe process stopped having those CPU usage spikes.

I tried disabling many features in QTTabBar to see if it would make the CPU usage spikes disappear, but nothing seemed to help.

If you use QTTabBar, you should see if you're having the same problem. The svchost.exe process, for me at least, always had the lowest value PID among the other svchost.exe processes, so that should make it easy to spot if you're using Process Hacker or Process Explorer. If you look at CPU usage of threads, you might just see the behavior I'm seeing.

Yes the window mixed scales.

The program is called Clover and uses a Chromium backend that leaves File Explorer looking like File Explorer(too many alternatives make look like something from Windows 3.0) just with tabbed windows, basically each instance holds the same window size putting a tab on the window chrome, which has the name of the folder that it has opened, also you can add bookmarks(that's all Quick Access is too), use keyboard shortcuts, and the like.

The problem for me still exists as the last update was in July 2018

This is actually exactly what I want from Microsoft.
Maybe now they are using a Chromium Edge, they can get tabs for FE to work the same?

Clover works great if you just want Tabbed Explorer.

QTTabBar is indispensable as an integrated Explorer shell.

The 1040 update makes certain elements blend better with the default Dark Explorer...



I find the Ribbon hideous, I suggest also using Old/New Explorer for a more refined look.

I was having this same/similar issue that was driving me crazy when trying to navigate a 2TB drive with all my archives on it for the purposes of cleaning duplicate files and general re-organization and rapidly shuffling of lots of my files and folders, both large and small to and from other drives and partitions. It did not appear to be lagging my entire system, but only Windows Explorer windows exclusively. I have since reverted back to the "old" version of QTTabBar hosted on SourceForge and haven't noticed any issues since (other than fewer bugs / glitchiness in general).

This is a great project, adds tabs to explorer and much more. Honnestly, MS should have done this from the start but hey it's Microsoft (an adorable mixture of 3 parts cinnamon, a pinch of sugar, one part incompetence and 2.5 parts of evil). Anyways, this project is real old and in 2011-2012, one of the Devs Quizo branched off and did his own fork of QTabBar and decide to call it QTabBar as well. I've used both. I used Quizo's for ages and it's damn good but it felt like he had packed a little too much into it and that it was buckling under it's own way. I decided to try this QTabBar project and I found it a lot lighter and faster than Quizo's and it has alot of really nice features in it's own right. The current release is 1.5 beta 2 and it's solid as a rock. If you want to compile it, it's commit number 260 (I would recommend use a snapshot of that commit). I would recommend you stay away from commit 451, the last commit in the trunk, it was intensely unstable and slow.

I have 2 PCs with 1809, no problems seen with Qttabbar except rendering in its options section where a line of text is half visible in some boxes at the edges. (Been like that as long as I've known it).

I was on Win10 v1803, but was growing tired of my old theme and some of its inconsistencies and quirks and got excited when I found out Win10 v1903 finally offered a stock dark theme experience that might be able to address some of the issues that were annoying me.

I learned of the v1040 QTTabBar update and took the update first to see if it would fix the glitchy issues but it did not.

After finishing up with what I needed to get done that night I proceeded to uninstall my theme, icon pack, OldNewExplorer, QTTabBar v1040, and UltraUXThemePatcher then perform an SFC /scannow to bring my Windows Explorer back to stock.

After that was accomplished I actually had to use the external Windows 10 Update Assistant to force my machine to update from v1803 to v1903 due to the built-in Windows Update telling me "everything was up to date" when I knew it wasn't (I forcibly disabled updates for a while).

Once I was fully updated and on Win10 v1903 I installed the newest UltraUXThemePatcher that came with my new custom v1903 dark theme (that I bought from cleodesktop dot com) along with OldNewExplorer and the old SourceForge version of QTTabBar and was good to go again.

Now I can easily switch between Win10 Stock Dark Theme and my purchased Win10 Custom Dark Theme to address readability issues when necessary for certain applications I use while still maintaining a dark file explorer. (Dark blue hyperlink text colors and black text is hard to read on dark gray backgrounds) It's not a perfect solution but it's better than what I had before and seems to be flawless in performance again, so I am happy.
