Does this software even work anymore? I think I tried it, recently. ( despite the VirysTotal flags). And it did not change the file menu windows.

I uninstalled and reinstalled QTTabBar. The issue left and came back on reinstallation. I disabled Thumbnail Preview, and the issue remained also (I was surprised).

Is there a way for me to share a video file. It would make it crystal clear the issue I'm trying to describe. I even managed to shrink the 20 second video file to 700KB, which is reasonable.

Try disabling just that feature... and if that has an effect try increasing the cache..

Ok, can you confirm absolutely this only happens with video files in folders- and whether it happens with just 1 in the folder, and what the file type is or are?

    See this post here:
QTTabBar Updates - preview tips slow explorer

I can only imagine it's some particular configuration you have set up... not something I see happening.
You could monitor the task manager while the folder is opening and capture a screenshot, I suppose..
More technically (a lot) there's Process Monitor (procmon) from MS (free). But that wouldn't pinpoint the cause in any useful way.

Considering the Preview options- you can deselect this temporarily, or extend the delay before it appears (useful if it appears too soon)

You could also save Qttabbar settings, then restore all to default and see what effect that has.

Thank you @dalchina for all your suggestions, it's super appreciated.

I tried disabling Previews, and still the same scenario. I'm away from home at the moment, with my laptop. When I get back home, which would be later this week, I'll give it a go in in-depth troubleshooting to see if I can make something work. I always have at least 20 little programs running, adding little tweaks here and there. Perhaps there's some sort of conflict.

And, Ooh! Zip files are supported, Yay! I'll also upload the video file when I get a chance.

Does QTTabBar work well with XYplorer? Would it make sense to use both of these together?

I looked at both a long ways ago. They seemed to be somewhat redundant (from what I remember anyhow). I remember I chose QTTabBar over XYplorer because it was free, it seemed more powerful, and it adds tab navigation, similar to Google Chrome, which I find intuitive to use.

@dalchina, here is the slow behavior QTTAbBar - Slow Loading.zip.

This happens with video files and audio files. This also only happens the first time I open a folder. The second, third, etc time I open the folder, all is well and folder view opens as normal.

The odd thing I notice is that at about 2s into the video the file list is
    QTTabBar Updates-1.jpg
    - with no column headers

    then it does this:
    QTTabBar Updates-2.jpg
    before appearing as
    QTTabBar Updates-23.jpg

Note the error code - I wonder why that occurs?

    Still no column headers..?

There are odd differences between the toolbars and clack of column headers compared to mine:

Do you have any other file explorer modifications applied e.g. Old New explorer?

Have you also run chkdsk on the relevant partition?
However you say it does this with other files and folders.

You say this does not happen when Qttabbar is not installed. I suggested you back up its settings, set everything to default, then see what happens.

I didn't pay much attention to the error code to be honest.

At this point, I'm not sure what is going on. I uninstalled and reinstalled QTTabBar a couple of times. I thought it solved the problem, but it still happens. Sometimes when opening a new Folder, it Scans like in the video I shared, and sometimes, everything is absolutely fine. I get the feeling the lag happens the first time I open a folder, and then Windows File Explorer commits it to memory, and then every subsequent time I open that folder, everything is normal. Some other times, I open a folder, it takes just a tad longer to access, but then everything is fine.

I use an External Hard Drive to store all my data (connected via USB-A). It's not as fast as an internal SSD Hard Drive of course. Perhaps this also plays a factor in the slow lag opening of folders.

I have various other programs running, but nothing that strikes me as things that interact directly with Windows File Explorer. I would like to start debugging this behavior, but I just don't have time right now to start Installing / Uninstalling programs to see which ones might be interfering QTTabBar and / or Windows File Explorer (if that is in fact what is happening). I'm going to leave it as is for now, and if I notice something worthwhile down the line, I'll post it in this forum.

    Cheers

I did an in place upgraded to Windows 11 a while back and I'm still running QTTabBar ver 1043 for 64bit which is largely working as expected.

You may be better asking that question on Windows 11 Forum but I believe that 1043 still works fine although it's difficult to install from scratch because by default there are no toolbars. You may want to wait for MS to add tabs to file explorer. It's under test in the Dev Channel at the moment and I believe it has caused issues with QTTabBar.

Is there a way to pop out Tabs into other Windows?

I use this Chrome Extension called "Tab to Window/Popup". It allows you to pop-out Tabs into a brand new Window or to pop-out Tabs into other Windows. I was wondering if there might be an option I missed that could do the same in QTTabBar.
    1. Tab to Window/Popup - Keyboard Shortcut - Chrome Web Store
    2. GitHub - acarabott/tabToWindow: Chrome extension to move the current tab to a new window using the command API

I know in QTTabBar, there is the Keyboard Shortcut "Open current folder in new window". It clones the current Tab into a brand new Window. It's close, but not quite there.

I'm assuming the "pop-out Tab" feature doesn't exist in QTTabBar. If that is the case, where would one go to make an enhancement suggestion?

    Cheers!
