1803 upgrade removed photo app from start page

I recently purchased a HP refurbished laptop. I was told it was about a year old.
After activation, the 1803 creators upgrade was downloaded and installed.
I noticed that the Windows default photo app disappeared from the start screen. It's not listed in settings-apps-apps& and features. It is in settings-default apps but reset doesn't do anything.
I can launch the app by going to file explorer and double click a photo. The app comes up and I can navigate as before.
But, again, it is nowhere on the start screen or in the alphabetical list.
    Whas up with dat?

Hi, you could use the appropriate command here- read thru the sections carefully, search for Photos.
Make sure you use the instructions at the start of the section.

    You can try reinstalling it.

There are plenty of programs you can download and use whether from the internet or via the Store.

For simplicity, I tried option three and went to the store and it said this app is installed. I did that before with the same result.
I haven't tried option one or two yet.
Should I download that driver link that comes up before I log in?
Like I said, the app is there, it just doesn't show up anywhere.

You could try uninstalling it and reinstalling.

Pardon? Sorry, no idea what that is. Could you post a photo?

I can't uninstall the app because it does not appear on start screen tiles or list. going to settings>default apps doesn't do anything either.
I tried command prompt and entered this:
    PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted -Command "& {$manifest = (Get-AppxPackage *Photos*).InstallLocation + '\AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest}"
I got an error message something like "cannot convert" etc.
I also tried to upload a screen shot of that driver link and something went wrong. text showed up and then deleted my message, but here's what it said: Windows 10 Repair Tool© - (Highly Recommended)

    So?
In a Run box, type shell:appsfolder > Enter,

if Photos resides in there, maybe you'd be able to Pin it to Start...

Question is, what have you downloaded and installed that's causing this prompt. If you haven't a clue where it comes from, then:

if that's related to a startup, you can identify that doing a clean boot, checking you don't then get that prompt.
Enable more startup programs until the prompt recurs.
Clean boot: Simply Google "What is a clean boot" if unsure.

If you have followed the Powershell instructions correctly and it won't uninstall, I suggest it's time for an
in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all programs, data and most settings.

(Tutorial available- you need an iso of the same base build and language as your existing Windows installation).

    Screenshot:
    a. Create a jpg file - a picture of the region of the screen using either the built-in Windows snipping tool or one of the many free screen capture tools.
    b. If all else fails, take a photo of it
    c. Upload using the Insert Image icon above your post.

    Tutorial available.
