I tried it on mine. If you go to file explorer and right click on photo and choose "open with", then click choose another app, a listing of apps comes up. go to the bottom of the box (not visible on mine until I arrow down to the bottom) and click "more apps" that allows you to see that Media Player is listed and a box that allows you to set it as default.

Definitely broken. As I mentioned in my last post, I submitted a feedback on this, about not being able to chose the app or program I want to associate with .jpg files because there is no Browse capability.

Up-vote it.The more ticks it gets, the more likely it is that they will do something about it.

Old Photo_viewer can be activated, used and set as default viewer by doing some changes in registry

    ; Change Extension's File Type
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.jpg]
    @="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Tiff"

    ; Change Extension's File Type
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.jpeg]
    @="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Tiff"

    ; Change Extension's File Type
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.gif]
    @="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Tiff"

    ; Change Extension's File Type
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.png]
    @="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Tiff"

    ; Change Extension's File Type
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.bmp]
    @="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Tiff"

    ; Change Extension's File Type
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.tiff]
    @="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Tiff"

    ; Change Extension's File Type
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.ico]

    @="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Tiff"

You can download .reg file and just activate it.

not the case every time. some of us have already used the .reg file to no avail. it i broken for some of us. rightclick image, click more apps, select windows photo viewer, check always use, opens image in wpv, close wpv normal click the image and it's back to being opened with photos.

That one (Current account) doesn't work for me. The "All Accounts" one does work though.

How to Restore Windows Photo Viewer in Windows 10
    • Option One: To Only Restore Windows Photo Viewer for Current Account
    • Option Two: To Restore Windows Photo Viewer for All Accounts
