Hard Disk Sentinel Pro vs. Samsung Magician

I run Hard Disk Sentinel Pro ver. 5.01.15 (latest is 5.30) and it runs in the background. I like it. Over the weekend I installed my first SSD that is supported by Samsung Magician an EVO 860. I have a 250GB M.2 2280 NVMe PCIe SSD that is not supported by Samsung Magician. What are the benefits of installing Samsung Magician that if I understand correctly it is software specifically made to monitor certain Samsung drives such as the EVO 860. Is installing Magician redundant if I already have HD Sentinel installed? If Magician is capable of say imaging or migrating the contents of the 860 EVO I have no need for that benefit since I have been a happy Acronis user for some time now. All though I do not know all of Magicians benefits I believe the main reason to install for me would be to monitor the health of the drive. Thanks for the help.

You have a HDD as well, so HD Sentinel covers both. I know nothing about Samsung Magician I'm afraid, but you should only need one monitor active.

    Hi! Thanks for responding.

    >You have a HDD as well

Just to clarify. I replaced the 500GB HDD 7200 rpm drive that came with the notebook with the Samsung SSD 860 EVO 500GB over the weekend. When you refer to the HDD above are you using "HDD" as a general term to include the Samsung SSD 860 EVO? I still have the original 250GB SAMSUNG MZVPW256HEGL-000L7 SSD installed that also came with the machine. What I did was image the 250GB SSD and wrote it back to the EVO so I am now able to dual boot. I was thinking of installing Samsung Magician *only* on the EVO. I guess I am just wondering if the Samsung Magician software which I also know nothing about is a better option to monitor the new Samsung SSD 860 EVO which I believe this software is designed specifically for these types of drives rather then HD Sentinel. TIA.

Thanks for the clarification. I thought you had a HDD from your specs:

    - perhaps you might update them?

As it happens I have an old copy of Samsung Magician installed - v4- it claims there's no update- and at a quick glance I can't see any monitoring or alert features.

Just found v5 having searched- odd the program showed no update.
Download Samsung SSD Magician - MajorGeeks

It seems a poor relation to HD Sentinel as a general disk condition monitor- what do you think?

The one thing it does offer a set of optimisation features. So I'd say these are complimentary.

Copy that. I was waiting to see if the new SSD took : )

You know I really don't know yet since I have not read up on Samsung Magician. I only knew that with the install of the EVO that the EVO was the first drive that I had that would be supported by Samsung Magician and before installing I guess I was just asking around to see who if any had any thoughts on it compared to HD Sentinel. Thanks for your input. I might have to wait a few days or this weekend until I am able to further assess Samsung Magician.

There's a set of features HD Sentinel has Samsung M doesn't- but S.M. does have the optimisation/update features.

Interestingly v4 works with my drives, v5 doesn't.

Well my take is neither is needed for SSD's, they are no moving parts to fail. Magician is useful for Firmware updates if any major issues arise. I have it installed but it doesn't run in the background. iIt can be useful for optimizing an SSD but so are several other partition software programs as in Minitool Partition Wizard. I also use HD Tune to monitor my Spinners check up on them if I notice any hiccups that might be hard drive related.
Windows Trims SSD on any schedule you set and the basic firmware of the SSD handles garbage collection anytime the SSD or SSD's are idle

Haven't heard of this one. It would appear that the free version is severely outdated and the PRO version's last update was more then a year ago. Are you using the 10 year old free version or the pro version?

I do not know enough about SSD's to know whether third party software is needed or not but frankly I really like looking at the GUI interface of HD Sentinel : )

If you have Hard Disk Sentinel, then that is far superior to Samsung Magician.
I guess the only thing that Samsung Magician has over Hard Disk Sentinel, is that it checks for firmware updates, but you can do that manually.
