Anyone found a solution on this issue yet?
I'm having problem even with flietypesman to assign desired actions to the files.
Try running it as admin, Make one simple change. Close and open it and check the change.
Log off, on, recheck.
Basic question is- is the change being written to the registry?
I just use GetUserFTA and SetUserFTA.
SetUserFTA: UserChoice Hash defeated the kolbicz blog
Works okay on 1803. You can keep the config file as a backup in order to restore FTA's if you ever need to.
I came across this for Notepad++
How to Set Notepad++ as the Default Editor in Windows

No idea if it works in 1809, but you're free to try it.

Anything new in this field? I'm in 1803 and I cannot associate a file to a program. I can't believe they screwed up something this basic. Almost the WHOLE point of a graphical operating system is to be able to double-click stuff to fire things up...
Are you up to date? What's your build - Windows key + r, winver.
See the News section to see latest builds.
The problem with file associations and 1803 was solve some months ago- not a current issue in general.
Build 17134.191. I do not know whether I'm up to date, nor how to be that if I'm not. I would prefer not to update anything.
Thank you for your reply. I have searched the News section for you as I suggested: you are not up to date:
July 24, 2018 - KB4340917 (OS Build 17134.191)
Applies to: Windows 10, version 1803
Is Windows Update working or have you perhaps disabled it?
Build 1803 association problems? MS confirms, + Powershell 'fix' - Windows 10 Forums
As late as this one MS was still struggling with file associations in 1803:
Cumulative Update KB4462933 Windows 10 v1803 Build 17134.376 - Oct. 24 - Windows 10 Forums
But these issues have been resolved as far as I know.[ADDED 11/8] After installing this update, some users cannot set Win32 program defaults for certain app and file type combinations using the Open with… command or Settings > Apps > Default apps.
In some cases, Microsoft Notepad or other Win32 programs cannot be set as the default. In some cases, attempting to set application defaults again will succeed.
Microsoft is working on a resolution and estimates a solution will be available in late November 2018.
Thanks for your accurate reply.
I have disabled updates with the WMUT wrapper script.
I've slowly built and tweaked my system around this version and fear the unpredictable mayhem an update could induce. Is it possible to update to a more recent build while staying in 1803?
EDIT: oh it seems I can just download KBxxxxxx from your first link and apply it. Right?
EDIT 2: well, trying to do just that results in Windows telling me this update doesn't apply to my computer. I'll just stick to where I'm at and consider a full update sometime in the future. Can't rep you again but I would. Thanks.
