    Settings/Apps/Startup

So far, I have found nothing about this: In that location, several of my apps have two or three entries, even though none of them have more than one app running. Why the multiple entries?

No, I don't know why this is in this forum, rather than in General Support.

No idea; just found it yesterday in trying to find out why one program was running two instances after rebooting. Not even certain when I first noticed that oddity, perhaps a few weeks ago.

    1809 not yet installed.

    Found this.

Have a read and see if you can follow the folder discussion. I don't have this condition.

I read that, and did a quick look at the folder for the program that led me to the Settings area in Windows 10, where I found only one shortcut to the program. (Turned out that the problem was caused not by the two Startup entries for that program, but by a corrupt .ini file for it.) Thus, I'm not sure that the information will help me.

I don't have time to check the other multiple-entry folders now, as I need to get back to the preparations for a complex Szechuan recipe I am going to cook for tonight's dinner, but will have a longer look, perhaps tomorrow.

Is this thread's issue about Start or Startup? Your link is about multiple program in Start menu.

If the problem is about startup programs, check Task manager, and select Startup (set view columns startup type and command) and post a picture of it. Would make finding a problem much easier.

Another good program to work with is Autoruns.

As stated in my original message, this is about Settings/Apps/Startup; however, the duplicates also appear in Task Manager. I don't know what you mean by "set view...," as I don't find any such entry; please provide instructions, and I will proceed from there.

I meant this tab in Task Manager (you can select columns by right clicking on column header):

Not bad: It is only 6Oct2018, and I have already learned something this year, as shown in the attached screenshot from the Task Manager; this is the first entry there on more than one instance of a given program.

looks like those entries were copied in several locations. Have no idea how.

Check this Tutorial | Add, Delete, Enable, or Disable Startup Items in Windows 10

and disable (right click in task manager) tasks that are multiple. If everything works well, you can delete them.

This could be the right time to make system backup, if you don't already have one. Macrium free is good choice
