File associations of a file not being assigned to windows 10 settings

    First please see my efforts:

    https://i.gyazo.com/deaaf6526789b292...0e0d29230a.gif

Basically when I create a file extension of a file the system does not recognise, the above shown in the two videos / gif does not work. It does not store in the system. I have tried to reinstall Windows 10 a fresh with no such luck (using 1803 iso) either.

Is this a bug in Windows 10? Or is there some solution to fixing this, as you can see in the gif file I have done this previously with ease with a .md file.

Here is some more information about my system:

Try Control Panel/file association, just type in control panel and select it.

    Strange!
    Worked here...

Try switching the association in Settings/Apps/Default apps/File types...

When I tried this I get the following:

It just stays like this forever, even after restarting my PC.

Are you using the exact same version of windows as me? Which is:

    Windows 10 Home
    1803
    30/04/2018
    17134.320

I tried to switch them out like this, also did the same on a fresh install of the following on a different system:

    Windows 10 Education
    1803
    30/04/2018
    17134.320

I have also tried it with different applications and different file extensions with the same result.

I hate to burst your Win10 v1809 bubble but the file association problem is not fixed in 1809...yet.

marked as "un-solved" until Microsoft issues new updates for v1803 and v1809 in late November
