Perhaps too early to conclude but after getting it to happen 3 times yesterday and I haven't had it occur at all since doing that. Hoping ......

My cpu is an AMD A4-9120 and I have all the latest updates and drivers.

Have you ever tried WPS? It is noticeable faster compared to LO, not to mention compatibility with MO.
I have it on my phone but not tried the desktop version. Might be an option if I decide to change.

Another move would be to use the "still" relase (as previously suggested by Caledon) i.e. 6.0.6; be aware that the fresh 6.1 is "kinda more beta" release so it may be less robust.

    HTH.

As I already replied - I had the problem before 6.0.6 so think it unlikely it was fixed in one version and then broken again in the next. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Oh did not realized that; but unless you are willing to test new features, it is in general maybe wiser to use the more tested version, but probably you already know that, all the best :)

I'm thinking of switching to OpenOffice, unless any other suggestions???
Personally I think that would be a huge mistake. Most developers fled OpenOffice when it moved to Oracle and the pace of development has slowed so much that Oracle just donated it to the Apache Foundation. (You can read more about the history in this Should I switch from OpenOffice to LibreOffice or Microsoft Office? article.)

Here's all 6 OpenOffice releases from April 2014 to date:
    OpenOffice 4.1 released April 2014
    OpenOffice 4.1.1 released August 2014
    OpenOffice 4.1.2 released October 2015
    OpenOffice 4.1.3 released October 2016
    OpenOffice 4.1.4 released October 2017
    OpenOffice 4.1.5 released December 2017

Now compare it with the 161 releases of LibreOffice during the same period (not counting Alpha or Beta versions). The list is too long to list here but you can see it for yourself.

I agree with @Caledon Ken... stick with the Still versions of LibreOffice (a.k.a stable) and try v6.0.6.

    Hope this helps...

Unfortunately that sometimes does happen. It's the nature of open source where overall efforts are sometimes less co-ordinated as diverse contributors concentrate on their own areas of knowledge and interest. It takes a rigorous Q&A process to co-ordinate getting code out the door and coders are often more inclined to prefer coding rather than testing 'feature and patch' control management which is far more administrative.

ok thanks. Will try that. Already tried switching "hardware acceleration" and openGL but not openCL.

WIll just have to see how it goes for a few days as it seems unpredictable. Will update.
I'm calling it, turning off openCL has definitely fixed it. I temporarily turned it on again and it crashed within 20 minutes. Off again and it's fine. It just seems quicker too without delays waiting for the screen to load.

Don't know exactly what it means (specific cpu/driver conflict I guess) but thanks very much!
