Windows Media player and mp3gain problems

Hi i seem to have a problem with windows media player it only plays a few seconds of a mp3 file then crashes this is on my laptop but my pc is fine and they are running the same version of windows 10 pro

Also after the last windows update the app mp3gain will not run, when i try and run it, instead of running it starts the Microsoft office installation

I use mp3gain to normalize my music collection if this will not work what else can i use

    Any ideas please

    Forgive the obvious questions..
    - do you have the latest version of mp3gain?
    MP3Gain - Browse Files at SourceForge.net
    - have you uninstalled and reinstalled it?

Have you tried it on both PCs?

    There is some discussion here:
    MP3Gain / Discussion / Discussion

Have you looked through that, or asked a question there?

    We don't know what
    the last windows update
was for you.. these can be different for different people. (I've chosen to remain with build 1709 for now).

    What is your Windows build?
    Windows key + R, winver
    - and what was the last update?
    (Update History in Settings)

    Thanks

Note I've not addressed WMP which could be a range of standard issues or sthg else. Hopefully someone else will help you who is running build 1803.

I use MusicBee and find it to be a very nice media player.
Here's a screenshot of the interface.

I'm currently two minutes into playing an mp3 with WMP on 1803, so there's no obvious reason why it shouldn't work for you too. I don't use mp3gain, if I need to adjust the volume of an mp3 I use Audacity.

It would help if you said what fixes you have tried. For example, have you uninstalled then reinstalled WMP? As an optional Windows feature you do this by turning it off then back on again.

I doubt we can help with your mp3gain problem as it is so obscure.

all over the web and there are loads of people with the same problem
    - presumably that comment refers to WMP

Again- have you used the discussion forum at Sourceforge specific to that program?
Again - have you uninstalled and reinstalled it?

You can track what is happening when you start mp3gain using Process Monitor (free from MS).
However, I think that will be too technical and awkward to use for you.

How do you start mp3gain? From a shortcut?
If so, examine the properties of that- what is it pointing to?

mp3gain presumably has an installation folder.
What happens if you launch the program directly - double click on the exe file?

    What is your Windows build?
    Windows key + R, winver
    - and what was the last update?
    (Update History in Settings)

What happens if you uninstall that update? Does mp3gain run then?

As I said, doubt I can help here.

WMP - to check for Windows corruption and possibly avoid conflicting programs, try creating a new user for test purposes, then try WMP.

If that works, then it's either user profile corrpuption or programs starting or configured in your user profile.

If it doesn't, you can try an in-place upgrade repair install, or avoid the problem and use a different player.
