    Another add registry values question

    Hello

    After searching a lot and having read quite a bit in this 265 page topic, there is something I still don't understand.

    I have a few portable apps that I just copy from one of my "environments", comletely configured and no need to create plugins for.
    So I add them to \Win10XPE\Custom\x64\AdditionalFiles\Program Files, add a LINK line to pecmd.ini and that's it.

    Now for one of those apps I would like to add some registry entries.
    I know that I have to convert a .reg file with Reg Convert PE to end up with a .script file that contains RegHiveLoad, RegWrite and RegHiveUnLoad commands.
    And then what
    I don't have an app plugin to add the registry commands to the corresponding .script file. I could use another app's .script file to add those commands to, but that is dirty.

    In the Win10PESE project there was a plugin called Additional Registry (within Final_Y).
    In this Win10XPE project I suppose this additional registry thing should be done in Additions, but I'm not shure and I can't figure out how.

    In the "Add or Edit converted PE registry", there is a box with some commented commands that cannot be edited. If I click on the Edit box, it opens a file \Win10XPE\Temp\AddReg.txt in notepad, but first of all that's in the \Temp structure, secondly it is not there anymoere after being opened in notepad.

    Maybe I should use one of the "Merge registry file <n>" options, but those are .txt and I would suggest that after clicking on the Open file icon %GCustom% would point to \Win10XPE\Custom, but it points to the project root (%basedir%).

    If someone could explain to me how this works I would be able to fix my final tweak wish for this project I think.
    And again, those who built this project, excellent job and very clean compared to the (also good) win10pese project!

    Regards,
    Han

    You can add a line to pecmd.ini pointing at wherever you put the reg file.

    If you put somename.reg in windows\system32 add this line

    EXEC =REGEDIT /S %CurDir%\somename.reg

    or

    If I remember correctly, win10xpe uses letterswap.exe to set the usb stick to letter Y, therefore if you put somename.reg on the root of the usb stick :

    EXEC =REGEDIT /S Y:\somename.reg

    You could add that line directly before the line that says SHEL

    It is easy that way because you can just export the reg file from your current system and plonk it on the usb stick - dont need to convert anything.

    Or in case you want to put a bunch of reg files on the usb stick, you could add this line instead:

    FORX Y:\*.reg,&&rf,0,EXEC regedit /s %&rf%

    Thanks SIW2!
    I was looking for adding .reg files like this, but couldn't find any example anywhere and searching for regedit in the project structure gave 0 results. So didn't know this would work.
    This is a great simple way of merging settings also for other apps like WinMerge without altering the original .scripts.

    Win10XPE - Build Your Own Rescue Media-image210.jpg

    We have additions for that purpose - remember to verify the Programs location - as the host registry will refer to C: and in XPE it will usually be X:\Program Files\*** or in Y:\Programs\***

    I know, but as I wrote in my post about asuming that Additions should be used, I don't quite understand how to use that plugin... I wrote what I tried with it.

    After downloading the Win10XPE_2021-01-16.7z file (from http://win10se.cwcodes.net/Compresse...0XPE_count.txt) I get blocked from opening the file by Windows Defender. It says it contains the Trojan file named Sehyioa.Ald

    Thank you kindly for letting me know. Downloading is not actually the issue though. I have downloaded the file successfully, but when I try to open the file with 7-Zip I get blocked by Windows Defender because of the Trojan file detected and Windows Defender wants to quarantine and delete the file.

    I have actually been using a much older version of Kyhi Windows 10 Recovery Tools for a long time with no serious problems. I don't know which version I am running, but the ISO file I have to install Kyhi Windows 10 Recovery Tools onto a USB Drive has this file name: winpese-x64-14393_17.01.16.iso

    I mainly use it to boot from the USB Drive to perform Drive Image Backups of my C drive using Acronis which is part of this Kyhi Windows 10 Recovery Tools package I already have. Do you think it is even necessary to update to this never version of Kyhi Windows 10 Recovery Tools we are talking about here or should I just continue using the older version I am running now?

    Following the Quick Start documentation, item 4 - see post#3 of this thread

    4) You will need to allow a Windows Defender "Exception" for the Win10XPE Folder
    I would suggest the same exception for any A/V software, in order to allow the program exe's to run without being blocked by your Host System....
