Running the ISO in a VM, skewed screen

    Hello

Lately I tried to add some things to my Win10PESE project from 2019 and found that additional software could not be downloaded. Then I found out that theoven.org and cwcodes.net are down more or less.
So also my Win10PESE project seems a bit dead...

I somehow found this topic from Kyhi, with the project Win10XPE and am deciding now if I will start all over again with this new project. It looks familiar (and cleaner?) but I miss things.

I was used to view my ISO's in VMware workstation, a quick way to test the iso and investigate programs.
In Win10PESE there was a VirtualTest option with Best emulation and if enabled it would find VMWare Workstation and start a VM with the ISO.
I created a VM and mounted the ISO and started the VM, and got a skewed screen. In the old Win10PESE project VMWare tools were not involved, so I don't think the problem lies with vmware display drivers.
With some effor I can click the PECMD2012 icon in the systray and select several resolution options (unreadable, so hit and miss) untill the sceen gets properly visible.

After spending hours to try and find out why I get a skewed screen when running the ISO in a VM, I would like to ask here if anyone has a clue where to look for.

Anyway, thanks to those making these WinBuilder projects available, great setup!

    Regards, Han

Test the media outside of VM - (From USB Media) to test results..
Or there is a Utility/XPE Host Boot Option - that will allow you to boot XPE from the "Win10XPE" local directory

    Thanks Kyhi,
I cannot test creating USB media right now, working from home on a remote system at work where the whole Winbuilder projects are stored.
But... I was just going to reply myself. For some reason I sometimes get great ideas after crying for help...
I checked some differences between my win10pese MV and this new one. The old VM uses Firmware type BIOS, the new VM I created for this project was set to UEFI.
Changed it to BIOS and now the VM starts with a proper readable screen. Something in this project doesn't like UEFI.
    Regards, Han

If I may ask one more question:
In Win10PESE there used to be a project cleanup option.
In Win10XPE I noticed the cleanup is during a new build. Can't find a seperate option.
I like to zip my properly configured D:\WinXPE folder before fooling around, and after I'm finished for a while.
And of course, I would like the zip to be as small as possible.

The four Important referanced - ProgCache is optional, but un-encoded programs would need to download again

    Thanks Kyhi and doudiii.
Those are the folders I found out about in mean time (lot of searching in the code )
Started searching for the step text "Deleting target & temp folders" in the whole structure, a.s.o.
Wouldn't delete your nice Quick start by the way Kyhi.
I will see if I can add the script.

Hi, quick question. Under Build Core\Build Options what is "Use Full Win10 Software Hive". Any advantages in using it or not using it?

    Thanks.

That uses the full windows registry hive (from the windows installation part) whereas leaving it unchecked uses the winre's registry hive with some parts from the windows installation part, necessary for the various features of the win10xpe. I think a while back ago, maybe longer than that there was a time when there was some advantage in using it but not now.

    Hi,
    You know my bad english...
    @Kyhi
    Just received a PM..
Looks like TheOven is Banning anyone that tries to help or support the users of Win10XPE - after the admin hijacked Win10XPE to support his PESE & Azin projects..
Are you sure? Please, if you are not sure, wait to be sure.
I think it's not true because i can't connect and i'm not an helper.
I guess it's due to the expiration date of the domain name ( search whois :
    Domain Name theoven.org
    Expiration Date 2021-05-19T06:04:16Z
    )

A good friend send me a boot.wim built from win10XPE because his bluetooth device (earphone) didn't work. He sent to me also the script/plugin. I thank you for the credit .
Finaly, i found what it is false in your BHT script. Maybe it's only an issue for my friend's device. And because my poor english, i asked to my friend to explain the needed change. But the site is down. Currently, i don't remember the point.

And other thing, i read that doudii is using a bluesoleil software (not freeware if i don't make error) : a large size if i compare with winpe. May i ask the reason that doubii doesn't use the script BTH de win10XPE?

Last point : i don't understand why the war is declared on the "oven" site. It's the same as many years ago with Bootland-Reboot.pro about winbuilder.exe. Many people are educated and yet they are as nasty as they are educated.

Yes, i'm an old man out of the new world (un français dirait de moi que je suis un "vieux con").

Ps : i can't put the result of my research in the "oven" site. HyperV in Winpe (not ICs, i speak about hypervisor itself) is ok for me in 20H2. A long way. It's funny to launch a VM win10 in a winpe. As many people will say, it's useless....linux is better.
