    People App's Data File Location

Where does the People App keep its data? I make frequent changes and updates and would like to make a copy after each change. I lost all the names after a KBCI error and had to restore Windows from a day old Macrium backup. I sure would have been easier to just drag and drop copy from the the backup file.

    Thank you.

    Hello JJ,

If you mean to be able to export (backup) and import (restore) your contacts in the People app, then the tutorial below can help show you how to.

    Thank you.

Actually, I was thinking something like a .bat file that would copy or xcopy the people data file to my external disk. Then if I needed to in case of my contacts( people) getting lost again I could just copy the file back to where it belonged.

I have a .bat file that does that for all of my Quicken qdf files and many of my Excel Spreadsheets. A shortcut to that file lives on the desktop just a click away when wan't to backup my volatile files. I've used that method since DOS days through IBM's OS/2 and now Windows. It has saved me many times from my own errors.

The people app keeps your data in the cloud in your MS account within Outlook. That's where my contacts data is and it always appears synched in Outlook and the People app.

    Thanks Steve,

I've looked in my MS Account but can't seem to find the file. Would you mind pointing me to it?

    Thanks again.

Sign in to your MS Account the Webmail way.
Top left is a square of dots > People >
That will show a list of contacts. That is what is synced with the People App on your PC assuming you have it setup with that Account.
    In the bar below select
Manage > Export Contacts > Export
That will get you a Contacts.CSV file.

There is no distinct file but you can download the data as Helmut said.
