Hey judesman,
AFAIK ... I have the latest OneDrive vers 18.131.0701.0007 and I don't have that feature either. I've only seen it in the last couple of Win10 Insider Previews and it's for turning protection on/off for Desktop,Documents,Pictures. It's not needed just to sync folders.
"The problem is I don't appear to have an Update Folders button. Any thoughts please?"
The 'Update folders' button shown in the Post 5 screenshot is a new feature to sync your Desktop, Documents and Pictures folders to the cloud and all your devices running Onedrive under your sign-in. It is being rolled out gradually, so just check back in a while (I don't have it yet either). I have Onedrive space to sync Desktop and Documents but not Pictures so I'm interested in testing when made available. Good topic read -

If you do not have 18.151.0729.0005, you will not have the new settings screen, or the new option. Simply go to the MS Office OneDrive Schedule site and DL it and install. It's rolling out, but you can get it now by yourself. Perfectly legit. I do it all the time.

So ... I don't have the latest OneDrive version as the new version hasn't rolled out to me yet ... lol
BTW .. I'm hoping it's just an issue with Insider Preview / OneDrive, but the last couple of IP updates for me. OneDrive has been creating new Desktop Folders (i.e. Desktop(1),Desktop(2),etc)
Guess I'll find out here in a minute :)
