    Licensed application opens as trial.

Having overcome a problem with Stereo Mix - in another thread - and having re-installed Cool Edit Pro, despite me entering its genuine licence key during installation, it opens up claiming to be a trial version.

    How do I overcome that?

I found this. Post 3 is interesting and given you were have issues the write up seems plausible. I don't know history.

So if this is the case the question becomes how do you get the corrupt keys out.

First I would back my system up with a product like Macrium Reflect or Acronis. Should things get ugly you want to be able to get back to where you are now. Important that you test boot disks from either product in the event Windows doesn't start.

Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect

You may even want to create a restore point. (Count on the Macrium image, hope the restore point works)

Maybe other members will have other ideas so you could wait for second or third opinion.

    1) Use Revo Uninstaller to remove product. My thinking is it will remove product and any remnants including registry keys.

    2) or Uninstall and then run a product one time like CCleaner to remove registry keys not in use.

    Just one members thoughts.

    Yes Ken, very interesting.

Just for interest, when I was fist made aware of Cool Edit, a limited version was available free. You could choose to install only two of the various tools. I learnt later that if you downloaded it several times and chose another two functions you could copy those files, and do the same several times until you had them all, and then copy and paste them into the limited version .....

The complete, paid, version was around $70.

I looked on eBay for it a few years back and found one with the original licence key being sold by a small audio related company.

I did that and made sure that there was nothing Cool Edit related on the system.

    It worked.

That being said, I never know what Windows is going to do next
