Recent update now disallows use of programs

Levono computer, came with Windows 10. Open Office was installed and has been my only source for documents/correspondence. The last update that Microsoft forced on me is requiring the purchase of Microsoft Office to get access to Open Office. Is there away around this?

Sound like the defaults for office documents have been reset to MS Office, which is not installed so will prompt for purchase. This is just a marketing ploy, and easily undone. Just set your defaults back to Open Office and you'll back to normal.

One easy way to do this is to right-click on the next office document you want to open, select 'Open with > Choose another app'. Tick the 'always open with...' box, select the appropriate Open Office app then click OK. Do this for each type of office document you use. That is Option Two in this tutorial...

I recommend you to uninstall OpenOffice and get LibreOffice instead. It is essentially the same and it is updated more often.
