I tried pasting the PDF file to word but it would not allow editing.
I also tried = Insert Picture/Image (TIF) in to OneNote > Select > Right click > Copy Text from Picture.
Then Paste in to say Word 2010. TIF was not a choice so I used Bitmap then Jpg.

When I copy a file with snip or other means and paste to OneNote this is the type of right click option I get. So when pasting to word, the OCR machine did not work and editing cannot take place.

Sorry, the right click options did not show up and they were the important part..
Just tried it with OneNote 2016 and it works for me (snipped picture and copying text out of it.

windows features = the filter was not turned on so I checked it.

My language was loaded by default. I removed the Word attachment as I was not aware.

See the attachment and what do I do when I get there
I would prefer, if you post pictures in your posts. Sharing docx files isn't a good idea, as they can carry malware...

Check under Settings / Apps / Manage optional features, that OCR for your language is loaded. Windows installed it for me automatically.

Think you're set to go then

It is exactly the same in OneNote 2010.
You only need do the first red circle as in post #14.
Exactly as per my instruction, no more complications needed.

You don't need Optional Windows TIFF IFilter ticked. That is for indexing and searching purposes.

Use file type TIF or PNG, Not JPG it is too lossy, Not PDF.

I use OneNote regularly to get text from images and scanned documents, or from screenshots from web / pdf files. You'll need OneNote that comes with Office desktop application suite, the OCR feature in OneNote is not included in free OneNote app which comes with Windows 10.

Guess I should mention about Office Onenote and free Onenote version before. This is important.
@Helmut, thanks for clarifying Itiff function. I've reported every settings I have, that could be connected with text and pictures. But this really has no influence.
