Need Serious Help: How To Record Video of What is Done on my PC?

    Hi all,

This has been a serious long term problem I need help with and I'm extremely genuine in my need for help.

I just started working late shift again so it's really hard for me to focus: I often use my PC when I'm really, really tired and I often make silly mistakes that can cause a lot of damage to the files on my PC.

This is my big fear: I'll get home from work and be super tired and I'll be doing some work on my PC like backing up some files or deleting some files and I'll accidentally cause some major damage to my PC without knowing it.

To remedy this, I want to be able to record all of the activity that's done on my PC so that later on I can view everything that has been done.

Thank you for any of your advice.

This community has the best computer experts I've come across so this is why I wanted to post this question here.

Nirsoft's utility goes some way towards this, but perhaps not at the level you'd like.

If you really wanted a screen video recording, there are many programs capable of that. However, you could end up with a large and unsearchable file...

I use this and it works quite well for me. Download Microsoft Expression Encoder 4 with Service Pack 2 (SP2) from Official Microsoft Download Center although it is no longer supported. If you install it, they will ask for an activation key. Just click continue and it will install and run fine. It used to be a paid program but no longer is.

You will need a disk imaging software like acronis true image / macrium reflect / aomei backupper for that

You can also use Steps Recorder to see why the sh*t hit the fan.

Thanks, but I didn't exclusively mean just me accidentally deleting files, but say I was doing something important like editing a file, I just want to be able to go back and be able to view the task being done and check that it was done successfully.

I suggest the following simple steps:

    1. Set the autosave options in MS Office to a low value say 5 minutes.
    2. Setup file history to autosave frequently - the shortest period is 5 mins
    3. Install Macrium Reflect Free and configure it to do a daily incremental system backup

You should be well covered if you do the above to protect your key files.

Hello NiceAndShy i suggest you use OBS Studios Download it here

    Once installed open the program,
Right click in sources > Add > Display Capture > Create/Select Source pops up, use 1st option ( Create new ) name it whatever you want, make sure that " make source visible " is checked, Press OK > if properties for display capture 2 comes up just press OK
    Then press Start Recording

You can change where the file is going to be saved by going to Settings > Output > Recording path
You can also change the quality of the video by increasing the Video bitrate. & / also change the format of the video.
Mine is currently set at 7000

This might not be exactly what you had in mind, but it's a effective way to see everything that happen to your system :)
    Good Luck !
