How to get rid of raw file support in windows photo viewer?

    Hi.

I have googled the internet but I have not managed to find how to remove raw file support from windows photo viewer. I have restored windows photo viewer like this. Now my problem is that I shoot photos both in jpg and format. This means that I have to watch the same photo twice.

Here it tells to uninstall Camera Raw Update but that does not seem to be option in windows 10.

Does anyone know how to do it in windows 10? Can I just manually delete something or regedit something?

Welcome to the forum are you shooting in raw +jpg if so just shoot in raw. Raw isnt one thing as its not a standard format as each camera maker has a different format so there are lots of filters a integrated part of any photo viewer

Nah, that does not solve the problem. I have with photos from old photoshoot. Since I am not CameraRaw expert, someimes JPG from camera comes out nicer than what I manage to get from RAW file. So I'd still like to keep both.

Also, even if I did shoot raw only I would still like to know how to get it skip raw files.

So far I tried to copy phto viewer from Windows 7 computer but it still showed me raw files. Now I feel kinda hopless. Could probably write some API hooks to hide raw files from that process but before I spend my time on that I want to be sure that there is no other way.

Maybe I’m missing something but why couldn’t you store your raw files in a separate folders from your jpg files? When I do a shoot I create a folder with a name specific to the subject and then create a RAW and JPG sub folders so they never get mixed up. Some times I create multiple JPG folders in case I want to create different file sizes for specific uses.

I think this works, it certainly works with slideshows, so it might work with Photo Viewer:
    1. In File Explorer, navigate to folder containing photos that you wish to view.
    2. In File Explorer, type *.jpg in the search box. You will then see all your jpeg's with the camera raw files absent.
    3. Click on any file to start photo viewer.

I cannot test it as I dont have photo viewer. But like I say it works on slideshows.

I only ever shoot in RAW format where possible and export any photos to others in JPG format. I'm mystified why you want to avoid the superior RAW format. Keep your JPG and RAW files in separate folders if you don't want to see duplicates.

I understand and sympathise with what the OP is trying to achieve. However separating JPG and RAW files into different folders could be tedious and time consuming, especially if you anticipate lots of pictures.

How to get rid of raw file support in windows photo viewer?-reg-merge.png

I have downloaded this, and it did not work; photo viewer is not in the list of programs in Open With or Default App. I used option 2 step 3, followed by step 5 to 9.

Your screenshot says you used Undo_Restore_Windows_Photo_Viewer_ALL_USERS.reg. That's the one to remove Photo Viewer.
