    VLC Sync Problem

I haven't played a DVD on my computer for a long time. But it did work. Since I got 1803, I haven't had time to play anything. Until now. Tried playing Jumanji II. It starts O.K. but then the video and audio start un-syncing and the audio plays after the lip movement. Using VLC.

The Internet has tips for syncing it back up. It says to use the "J" and "K" buttons to add or delete 50 ms in time. It works for a couple of minutes then it starts separating again. Is there any way to lock the Sync together?

I found something called Media Player Classic, Home Cinema. This works. But I prefer to have VLC.

On VLC's menu bar, under 'Tools', there is an option called 'Track Synchronisation' - have you tried that?

I've seen it, but don't know how to set it. My out of sync problem gets worse the longer I play the movie. From a fraction of a second, it can go to several seconds out of sync.

From what I can tell, you click on the arrows to 'hasten' or 'delay' the audio track synchronisation.

btw, was there anything else running in the background which was using your graphics card while you were watching the video?

Is this a commercial DVD ? I've had this problem with stuff I've got off the internet - out of sync gets progressively worse. It's usually down to the original ripper somehow messing it up, and the sound track ending up longer than the video.

For a permanent fix, you have to work out the time difference, extract the audio and shorten (without changing the pitch) it in something like Audacity, then re-mux the file. It's difficult to get spot-on, because you're assuming the time stretch error is linear. Sometimes it's easier to just use J + K and fix it on the fly.

Back in the days when standards were suspect and player compatibility was limited, VLC was a good choice. It could play just about anything.

But in the interim that Media Player Classic (MPC) has come along and has matured. It really plays everything. And it's easy to use.

Plus ... when VLC installs it "wins" the Windows tug of war.
So many apps have a hard time making the file-type associations ... ever since Microsoft made that difficult in Windows 10.
But VLC has no problem with it.

I dumped VLC for MPC long ago. I won't use anything else.
