    Can't make zip file association

In some magical way that Windows has, my zip files have become associated with Photoshop??????????

I cannot figure out how to assign a zip association. Though there's a list of probably 50 .z## file types which i have NONE. There is no .zip association which i have many.

    How do i correct this?

I'm sorry but i will not be back for 4 hours but will check this forum immediately on my return.

Find one of your zip files, right click on it and select properties, you should see a link where it says Change. Click and select the program you want to associate with .zip files. Windows Explorer is the default in Windows 10. There are alternatives you can download.

    Thanks for your reply.

    I'm back for 15 minutes

There a two problems with that solution:
    1) As i understand it, that method only changes is for the one file. I want to change the association globally
    2) When I do that, no unzip app is listed as an option.

It use to be you could enter (type in) the filename you wanted to use for an association. Now you must choose from a list which often (as in this case) the app you want to use isn't listed.

There is a tutorial here on TF for resetting the default file associations. It may help. You can't, under your current issue, download the whole file, because it is a Zip file. Kinda a Catch 22. But scroll down till you see the one for Zip, and download the .reg file and merge it (click it). I've also posted it here, if you want, along with the link to the tutorial.

To answer in reverse order - Windows Explorer is an app that can unzip, if you don't see it in the list, click 'more apps', scroll to the bottom then click 'find another app on this PC'. Look for C:\Windows\explorer.exe

Once you have set the association for one .zip file, it applies to all .zip files from then on.
