Skype for business Closes Immediately after opening in Windows 10

    Hi,

we are using Skype for business basic with office 365. It was working with windows 7 perfectly.

When we installed it for our new windows 10 PCs it produces some error.

    1. It crashes on 'Welcome to skype for business' screen
    2. In some PCs It closes automatically after opening.

Ms office 2013 installed on those PCs.
Kindly help me to solve this issue.

First, Skype for Business will be deprecated sometime in the future, Microsoft Teams replacing it. I sincerely recommend you to at least consider replacing SfB with Teams in your organisation.

    Microsoft Teams Group Chat software

Having said that, you could try starting SfB in safe mode. Press WIN + R to open RUN prompt, type lync.exe /safe and press Enter or click OK:

If it starts OK in safe mode, close it and start normally. Does it still crash?

    Hi Kari,

I just tried running in safe mode which does not solves the problem. I have tried Reinstalling Skype for Business. But the same problem repeats.

On problem computer, browse to folder %localappdata%\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Lync (for Office 2016, change 16.0 to 15.0 if using Office 2013).

If exists, delete any other files & folders except Tracking folder. Open the Tracking folder, delete all files only leaving folder WPPMedia. Open folder WPPMedia, delete al files.

When done, the %localappdata%\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Lync folder should only contain Tracking folder, which in its turn should only contain an empty WPPMedia folder.

Now try to start SfB again in safe mode.

    Hi Kari,

Thanks for the response. But This does not fix the issue. Skype opens, and stays for seconds and then closed.

Other than reinstalling Office and SfB, I do not know what else to try.

My recommendation is to completely remove Office and SfB by following these instructions: Manually uninstall Office - Microsoft Office

When done, reinstall Office and SfB.
