    Corrupt cortana not displaying properly

As per my below image, when I open cortana the display does not look right. There are three options under "can I be of assistance?" (or one of the other sayings things it puts there) which only become visible when I hover over them. I don't believe this is the proper behavior. Also in the "pick up where I left off" section it just oddly shows icons of the program I was using and doesn't give the name of the file. I don't believe this is the correct behavior either. Clicking on one of the icons opens up a recent file.

I tried following these steps with no luck - Reinstall and Re-register Cortana in Windows 10 | Windows 10 Tutorials

    Any other suggestions are welcome.

    Not hovering over any option:

    Hovering over one option:

Try creating a new user for test purposes, and compare what happens & post the result.

Another option would be to try using a restore point created before this started to occur. System restore is only available if you have specifically enabled it after any last upgrade or Win 10 installation.

    Thanks for replying.
I tried a new profile and everything works good. Unfortunately I can't switch over to this profile since I have so much customization on my current one. This has been an issue for months now and I checked and don't have any that go back that far.

Ok, so now you know it's related to your user profile, and is not general Windows corruption.

Of course it could be related to this:
so much customization on my current one.
    - depending on what you've done.

    You could try:

Then there's enable/disable Pick up where you left off: (title below is misleading)

Doing these things cleared out the apps at the bottom, but the options still don't appear unless I hover over them. Oddly, when I just turned on high contrast mode, all the options appeared. Honestly, this is not a huge deal as I don't use cortana that much. So if you're out of ideas, we can probably close this thread. Thanks for your help.

If the meaningless icons have gone, that's perhaps as much as you can do.

I leave Cortana alone, and use a replacement start menu that properly represents my large start menu (which the native style can't) with its own (customisable) search box.
