I don't believe you have yet confirmed you can play ANYTHING with WMP.

So for the 3rd time, can you?

Further, is there any change if you create a new user for test purposes, log in as that user, and then try WMP?

    Hi there
maybe answered already but why not use VLC, KODI or various other alternatives -- as for "DRM'd" music -- I thought that had gone the way of the Dodo -- but there are ways to DE-DRM stuff. DRM on Music you've paid for was a ghastly idea -- Music these days is portable --- can you imagine say buying a BOOK and a restriction being is that you can only read it in one specific room !!!!.

I thought "ichoones" was either going away or had now gone DRM free -- in any case there's ways to convert files to play on any device.

Restricting music to a specific device is totally bonkers --what happens if device gets broken etc etc -- the hassle of re-establishing account credentials, re-creating local libraries etc etc -- what a pain. !!!! -- Also you aren't always connected to Internet etc.

@x509 provided some example files in post #7, none of them are copyright protected. All of them play in WMP on everyone else's system.

    Dalchina,

Sorry for the late reply. New Years Day stuff.

So I did create a test user, and I can confirm that for that test user, there is no sound when WMP "plays" those WAV files. This after I ran sfc /scannow on my system in my normal user account.

This issue is on my desktop, which is what I normally use at home. Those WAV files are "audio notes" for photos, and I do my photo processing on my desktop, which has a 24" monitor.

I also have a laptop, for when I travel, which I do a lot on business. On the laptop those same WAV files play just fine with WMP. Normal sound.

No. I created those file. My DSLR has a feature to record WAV files up to 30 seconds. Very useful when taking photos out in the field.

    Jimbo,

You and I are in "violent agreement" here. The only music I play on my phone or tablet is from mp3 files I created when I rip a CD. I refuse to let Apple lock me in forever. Same with books for me or my wife. Only PDFs. Actually Amazon is worse, because they force you into Kindle format.

And when I travel by plane, I'm not connected to the net, because here in the US, the airlines charge way too much for internet access inside the plane. Yes, we agree for several reasons.

I know, and as I just posted, they also play fine on my laptop. So what is the problem with my desktop system?

On your desktop will WMP play any sound file (other than those in question)?

And have you tried removing WMP by unticking the box, restarting, then ticking the box to 'reinstall' it?

    Hi there @x509

Actually Kindles are fine -- just use CALIBRE to convert epubs / pdfs or other e-book formats to Amazon MOBI, AZI3 / other (non DRM'd) kindle formats -- no probs whatsoever and kindle DRM from amazon purchased e-books can easily be removed with the De-DRM plugin for calibre (can't give link --Forum rules but google). Calibre is legit of course and very useful.

    calibre - E-book management

I travel a lot as well and I'm not paying for plane (or train --use lots of trains in Europe) wifi fees either. I always take a kindle, phone and wireless Bose noise cancelling headphones.

    Cheers
