Lost with AIK and ADK Again. How to install?

    Hello,

I only want to create a recovery media, but I don't understand anything about how to do it

    I have a Windows 7 DVD which includes SP1, I have downloaded
The Windows Automated Installation Kit (AIK) for Windows 7
And wrote the ISO file to a DVD
Everything OK until I found out there is an optional update to AIK for Windows 7
The Windows Automated Installation Kit (AIK) Supplement for Windows 7 SP1
and this "Optional Update" contains the Windows PE 3.1, I need

    The questions are:
    A) How do I install step by step The Windows Automated Installation Kit (AIK) for Windows 7 and The Windows Automated Installation Kit (AIK) Supplement for Windows 7 SP1?

    B) The Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (Windows ADK) for Windows 8.1 Update Also contains Windows Preinstallation Environment (Windows PE), does this download works also with Windows 7 SP1?

    Thanks
    Camelia

    Good morning, Camelia.

You may want to go to SevenForums' for the tutorial on Clean Installing Windows 7:
Clean Install Windows 7 - Windows 7 Help Forums

And here's a quick reference to installing Windows 7; not instructions, but links to instructions:
Tutorial quick reference list for Installing Windows 7 - Windows 7 Help Forums

For backup, I suggest Macrium Reflect: Macrium Software | Your Image is Everything

There are a couple of tutorials: MACRIUM REFLECT - Create Bootable Rescue USB Drive - Windows 7 Help Forums and Imaging with free Macrium - Windows 7 Help Forums

There are also some Macrium tutorials on TenForums, but they're really oriented toward Windows 10. Macrium.com also has a user manual you can download.

Not to brag or toot my horn, but for information only: I was a beta tester on Windows 7, and we never used AIK and/or ADK. We installed, then backed up our installation with our chosen backup program. Most here use Macrium Reflect.

Thanks @Wynona but outdated information, I will try with Windows 10

With Windows 10, you should use Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit for Windows 10 (Windows 10 ADK).

If you just want to create a WinPE USB boot media or ISO image to be used on your Windows 10 computers, see this tutorial: Create WinPE USB or ISO | Windows 10 Tutorials

It will give you step by step instructions.

Macrium Reflect downloads and uses the original Microsoft Windows PE.

You should select the option highlighted yellow if you want to install ADK / WinPE on computer you are currently using, and the option highlighted blue if you want to just get the installer and install it on another PC:

The tutorial I linked to is based on you installing ADK on computer you are currently using (yellow highlight).

"Macrium Reflect downloads and uses the original Microsoft Windows PE."
Yes, and it is the file "pe10_1607x64.zip" which I don't want to use it at this moment

After downloading the Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit - Windows 10 for installation on a separate computer, copy to an usb stick and move it to Other computer can I continue with your tutorial?

Of course it is not my business but I just wonder why? That ZIP contains original Microsoft Windows PE.

Yes. Install from USB on any computer running Windows 7 or later (or Windows Server 2008 or later), and continue from tutorial step 3.

Not clear to me what you are trying to do.

Macrium claims to offer the option to browse to another pe ( custom pe ), but I have not been able to coax it to do that.
