I've googled this and all the answers I saw related to an earlier version of Windows 10. I'm using Snagit 13 and, when I try to capture a portion of my screen, the entire screen goes black. Disabling hardware acceleration is supposed to correct this problem. Thank you.
Is there any update for SnagIt to be w10 compatible?

That's odd. I'm using version 10 from 2010 and it doesn't have this problem.
I'm running SnagIt 2018 and it works without difficulty. Unless you're firmly tied to SnagIt (or don't want to pay the upgrade costs) you might try Screenpresso instead. @Kari recommends it and I've found it be a great capture/manipulation program for screenshots.

PS: I mistakenly said Greenshot at first (another good free screen capture program: Kari didn't recommend that one, but you can find others here at TF who swear by it). My bad!
The solution comes from TechSmith (Snagit) itself. But I can't find how to change the hardware acceleration in the Spring Edition of Windows 10. I didn't have this problem for a long time now. It just reared its' ugly head on my clean install. Still need help please.
In previous versions (and probably in all the instructions you've seen) the way to find the setting was in the Control Panel. These settings have been migrated to the Setting app in 1803 so I'm not surprised you are having trouble following the outdated instructions.

...you need to get to the Advanced Settings screen shown in Method 1, Step 4 and click the Troubleshoot tab as in Step 5.
To get to Step 4 in 1803, go to Settings > System > Display, scroll down and click 'Advanced display settings', then click 'Display adaptor properties...'.
But then you may find (as I did) that your particular hardware and driver does not have that Troubleshoot tab - not many do these days, apparently. From that guide I linked to earlier...
Not all computers will support this. Most newer computers using Nvidia or AMD/ATI graphics cards will not have the ability to change the amount of acceleration through. These options are typically only available on older computers or computers using onboard video...
I could not find a Troubleshooting tab. However, I was able to control Hardware Acceleration in an older version of Windows 10 on this same computer on a different partition. Strange to me. Any other suggestions, please?
You may just have to bite the bullet and purchase the upgrade or switch to a different tool. Sorry for your troubles.

I updated the video drivers - but will compare the old and new drivers later on when I boot into the old setup.
