I have tried speech recognition a few years back with a better software than even Cortana is now, but it is not meant for desktop, by the time you say, what you want, you can do it like 2-3 times using a mouse or a keyboard. It is a good idea for devices like TV, tablets or sets in the kitchen and such, it is more convenient.
Sounds about right i always thought it was more for mobile devices then Desktops, even like Windows 8.1 which which was geared towards mobile devices too.

I tried Cortana but it had a hard time understanding me. However I tried Google voice on my Samsung S9 and it works almost flawlessly. I would use it if it improves.

No, after seeing that it wants to allow "apps" to see my texts, emails, calendar events etc. I have no interest in using Cortana.

Better? Really? Sort of unfair to compare Cortana to a product that charges an annual fee. Cortana may go the way of the MS Office Paper Clip but maybe they will add $$$ features too in the future.
yeah judging by how microsoft is going nowadays ,it's quite obvious ,most of or all their products will be turned into services.
so we have to pay a monthly subscription payment. I hope cortana will be a separate product in oneday but not a service.
