How to re-install WMP12 after MS update obliterated it

My Windows 10 x64 system applied a large update last evening. Now, I don't have Windows Media Player 12 any more.
Is it possible to get it back?
If not, can I rollback the update?

From "Start" I can still find Windows Media Player (Identified as a Desktop App) but when I start it I get a popup "Windows Media Player is not installed properly and must be re-installed"

I don't know what this involves. I disabled WMP and that worked (including the required re-boot). Then I re-installed and that seemed to work (it found the components and installed them) but I still get the "not installed properly" popup.

My Windows Update history shows "Feature update to Windows 10, version 1803" and "Successfully installed on 14/05/2018"

Can I roll this back? I suspect it wouldn't resurrect my WMP12 but I'm already getting desperate.

Windows Media Player does not appear in Start -> Windows accessories

There seems to be no download. I tried various things and at one point was told that the download completed successfully. I can't find it on my system.

Yes "Windows Media Player" is there, as in your picture. I've unchecked and checked the boxes, and there are no error messages, but I still get the "not properly installed".

I went into Windows Update to see what might have caused this problem and I noticed that I could revert to my previous version of Windows... I wonder if this will rollback Win10 Version 1803, or will it take me back to Windows 7? Only one way to find out...

Five minutes later I'm still on Windows 10, and windows update shows that version 1803 is gone. Windows Media Player is back.

I've suspended Windows Update (for 35 days) but I may very well disable it entirely. I'd rather take my chances with the viruses and hackers than that version update!
