    App history...

On my system, almost all of the Windows 10 apps had been removed and/or disabled. Most of them acts accordingly except MS Edge:

When browsing, I use IE11, Firefox or Opera, but not Edge. Why is Edge connecting to the network, when it is not used?

PS: This is not a privacy related question. On my system, apps that are not required had been removed/disabled for performance reasons. Doing so is one thing, verifying that it acts as such is the other.

Edge is the follow up to IE and as was the case with IE is considered part of the OS so any OS access of the LAN or WAN Network may show up as Edge activity.

If you run a 3rd party firewall you could add a block to the edge process, (I doubt the the Windows firewall will allow this), but you may see errors where the system baulks at not being able to access the web.

It's a small business system, member of the local work-group, no remote access in/out and no web based application hosted locally. The OS in itself probably using scheduled programs to call home and not Edge, but it's just a guess...

Actually, Windows firewall can block Edge, or any other programs, including system's call home, such as Windows update. It's easier to do with Windows Firewall Control, but that's too drastic in my view and may impact the performance of the OS. And that's not the goal, I was just curious why Edge does that...
