Dropbox failed to install on April 2018 Update build/build 17134.1

I have tried many different ways of installing Dropbox: regular download through their website, ninite.com, and their offline installer of the latest stable build (48.4.58) - none are letting me successfully install this app.

As mentioned in the subject line, I have clean installed the latest RTM version of Windows 10 - build 1803/version 17134.1 and Dropbox isn't installing.

Here is a screenshot of the error I am getting when I am trying to install Dropbox:

Any tips? I have also reached out to Dropbox Support for additional help, nothing yet.

    Thanks.

Do you have the latest version downloaded? I wiped my hard drive and clean installed 1803. I didn't have any problem installing Dropbox. I'm on version 48.4.58.

Yes. I have clean installed Windows 10 1803 multiple times, no luck. Hence the post here to get some tips/tricks/suggestions/help on this issue.

Every time I clean install Windows (build 1803) and then install Dropbox, I get this issue. Really weird.

Windows is very odd how it acts sometimes.

    Hi RogerWilco91

I know this is probably a silly question, but I'm assuming you ran the Dropbox installation file as 'Administrator'?

Quick question: on this particular partition where I installed Windows 10 and Dropbox, I actually installed Windows using a custom Windows 10 image that contained Dropbox. I initially tried to install Dropbox during the Sysprep phase/customizing the Windows 10 image phase of the process. This is when the issue 1st began.

Just now, I quickly created a separate partition and clean installed a fresh copy of Windows 10 Build 17134.1 using MCT without customizing the Win10 image and Dropbox installed fine.

This makes me believe that maybe Dropbox shouldn't be installed during the Sysprep phase of customizing your Win10 image in Audit Mode and should only be installed after your account has been setup and you are in Windows 10 for good?

In other words, I am thinking that maybe Dropbox shouldn't be installed using the built-in Administrator account that logs you in during the Sysprep process Audit Mode?

    Is this correct?

Any clarifications or suggestions will be helpful as always.

    Thanks!

Edit: Found out the fix: basically I talked to Dropbox Support and they told me this was obviously a permissions issue after looking through my logs. They suggested I delete my Registry keys associated with Dropbox. After deleting all Dropbox registry keys with regedit, Dropbox installed fine.

Note: Don't install Dropbox when in Audit Mode. Basically what happens is that Dropbox tries to add permissions to the Dropbox install files to the built-in Admin account and fails but the permissions still stay with the registry keys that were partially installed/added during the installation process. Removing these keys after creating your own account is a mess....but can be done. Fixing this issue by removing the leftover Dropbox registry keys fixes the permissions issue and Dropbox can be installed again.
