    software RAID 0 - Disk XFER 160 MB/s to external HDD (USB3) on WSL

    don't discount software RAID 0

    Using Windows Ubuntu Linux subsystem with a few mods to get GUI stuff to work.

    Transferring Audio to external XFS (Linux) formatted USB3 drive from Linux HDD RAW drive attached to WSL.
    No SSD's involved

    160 MB/s (note not 160 Mb/s) very happy with that performance - especially to external passport 3TB type self powered pocket sized USB drive for backup..

    still getting very nice throughput and across a network too -- source is my NAS server, target is external USB drive connected to USB3 port and mounted on ubuntu subsystem on Windows.

    Nice!

    Doublechecking: So is this 2 x WD Passports in software RAID 0? I get about 80-87MB/s constant speeds on my USB3 connected 2.5" WD-drive.

    Hi there
    @slicendice

    3 X 3 TB HDD's Native Linux in RAID 0 array source on remote server to a single USB 3 external 3 TB passport WD drive (also Linux formatted XFS ) connected to Windows machine.

    OS Windows 10 Pro X64 on a 3 TB HDD - not an SSD in sight here. Running WSL / UBUNTU subsystem.
    Remote NAS server -- LINUX CENTOS 7.2 -- HDD's shared over network via SAMBA. Network via Wifi so not to bad !! Remote server has 3 X 3 TB HDD's in RAID 0 config. OS running from standard HDD -- once booted though Native Linux runs pretty much in RAM so SSD wouldn't make a huge difference for running the remote OS.

    WD USB3 HDD attached to the Windows Machine to test the RAID 0 Xfer over a network via wifi (@5GHZ)..

    Similar speeds obtained when 3 X 3 TB raid 0 connected to Windows machine running WSL with USB 3 external HDD and not using a network.

    Network speed doesn't seem to make any difference to performance using this setup.

    Cheers

    I was getting around 65mb/s with my WD Mirror NAS yesterday with 2 WD Reds.

    @jimbo45

    Now you confused me even more. I can make no sense of your setup. Is the USB3 attached drive a single drive or is it 2 or 3 drives connected in software RAID configuration?

    That 160MB/s transfer speed makes no sense to me for a single self powered USB3 drive.

    EDIT: According to your transfer log your real sustained speed is 58.16MiB/s, which makes more sense than the 160MB/s for multiple small file transfers to a single self powered USB3 drive.
