    WMP won't play music

After over 20 years of enjoying music through WMP I find on this near new laptop with WIn 10 that WMP won't play music files from the music folder or those stored in the WMP library.
So I went to give feedback via the Feedback Hub but the msg was not sent as I was informed this laptop was not connected to the internet. Well, as you can see from this post the connection is good.

So what's going on in the MS world? Are they deliberately trying to vex us or is it just too many departments competing with one another instead of co-operating?

I really don't have the energy to try to find a solution .... it becomes a mission and hour/days are lost while trying to comprehend some help desk person who is doing their best with what their screen tells them.

    Anyone else having WMP problems?

    What's a good free alternative?

WMP plays music fine on my pc.
Windows 10 also has a Music app and it's always setup as the default app for music until you change it in Settings> Apps> Default Apps. Just click where it says Music and change it to Windows Media Player.
Then open Windows Media Player and set it up.
Another tip: I've notice with video card/video drivers over the last year or so, that when you install a new diver, it always makes it's sound the default device instead of your speakers.
To fix that type Sound in the search box next to the start button and click enter. Scroll down to speakers, click on Set Defaukt and then click on Configure and set them up.
    That's probably your issue.

Hello BRKKAB ... thanks for that. Unfortunately neither addresses the problem.

    Hi there

    @nithig
Sláinte ! (always had a great time when visiting Emerald Isle).

    VLC works fine

    I also like KODI

both are free and will play video / audio formats for almost any codecs in the known universe.

    vlc:

Download official VLC media player for Windows - VideoLAN

    Kodi:

Downloads | Kodi | Open Source Home Theater Software

VLC is simple to set up, KODI needs a bit more work - can also be used to play remote video / audio on smart TV / amazon fire sticks etc but both really good. VLC can also be used for streaming to remote devices but more complex to set that function up.

    Cheers

    Thanks - it's a great friendly place

like Ireland the same philosophy "No such thing as strangers -- just friends who haven't yet met" !!!!!

try the Myvatn Marathon for something different if you get there rather than the typical tourist stuff !!
