I'm trying to migrate the VB5 compiler from a machine with Windows Vista to one with Windows 10.When I boot VB5 on the new machine, I get "Cannot find MSVBVM50.DLL". Using copy-and-paste, I retrieved that DLL from the old machine (where it resides in the folder C:\Windows\System32) and copied it into the same-named folder on the new machine -- but I still get the "Cannot find" message. After I click the "Okay" on that message, I get "Cannot find Help.exe" -- even after I copy-and-paste transfer that file in the same way. Is VB5 going to work under Windows 10?

You will need to register the dll not just copy it

    • Select Start > Run (or in Windows 10, 8, 7 or Vista press the Windows logo key + R key )
    • Type Regsvr32 /u {Filename.ocx} [There is one space both before and after /u. Do not type the {} braces. ...
    • Click the OK button. ...
    • Then re-register the file by running Regsvr32 {Filename.ocx or .dll} (as described abov

Such a prompt response, and such _clear_ instructions—I'm very grateful!
The MSVBVM50.DLL problem seems to be solved, after I used MSVBVM50.exe to install the _correct version_ of the DLL.
But now the message is "Visual Basic was not able to start up due to an invalid system configuration". The Help button on this message brings up "Can't find Windows Help.exe file", although I have transferred the file by that name from the old computer..

I'm not sure what I need to do in cmd prompt before typing "set". What path does it show?
Or do I type "set help.exe"?
