I like using Download Active@ UNDELETE - MajorGeeks for simple undelete but there are other ones too: Download Disk Drill - MajorGeeks for specialized file recovery )like pictures only etc.) you can find other ones here. Download Data Recovery Tools for Windows - MajorGeeks
Main "trick" is to do it as soon as possible before they get written over.

How long ago were these files deleted? Try Recuva

Download Recuva | Recover deleted files, free!

    Just stumbled upon this post,

I also use Recuva if I need to recover files.

But do keep note: Once you delete a file, the computer states that the file no longer exists. Yet, it actually still does, but the computer doesn't look on that part of your hard drive, and states that it's empty space (it defines that certain section of your hard drive as empty, and as time passes and the computer writes new files onto the hard drive, it would overwrite whatever is defined in that "empty section"). So no file recovery program would be able to recover files that have been rewritten from those "empty sections" on your drive. Yet with my experience, it takes some time until those sections get re-written. So if your file was deleted yesterday or a few days ago, it has a better chance of getting recovered versus a file that has been deleted a month ago or so. Also keep note: I apologize if you already knew this information. I just stated it for reference information.

I have had really good experience with TestDisk and PhotoRec 7.0

Also Minitool Datarecovery free is incredible. But free has limited number of (think 1000) files to recover..

    Hi,
Before trying somerecovery software, check whether the files are available in recycle bin. If not,
I too would recommend Recuva recovery software.

Recuva is easy to use, though it can't dig in quite as deeply as higher-priced data recovery software.
Other recovery software that I can recommend is: Remo recover basic edition, which is free upto 1GB.
