Unable to start DVD in VLC with simple double-click

    Hi,

When I double-click the DVD drive (with a DVD in) it automatically opens PowerDVD15 which requires purchasing, now. I would like it to open in VLC, which I can do by right-clicking and clicking on 'Play with (etc.)'. I've tried to find a way to set the default to VLC, but so far have not had any success.

    Any suggestions?

Is there no way to change the default player for DVD's?

I see in my control panel Windows 10 viewing large icons to see all categories. Click on Default Programs, then click Change AutoPlay settings. Scroll down a bit and you will see DVD's. I can set mine to open VLC there. I don't actually have any DVD here to test this though. Hope it helps.

Thanks AD, but mine is set to VLC, but is still playing PowerDVD15 by double-clicking.

    edit:
But I think that's for auto play, rather than the double-clicking (i.e. the default opening on right-click)

Have you tried "Choose default apps by file type"? I also agree that if you don't want to purchase Power DVD to uninstall it.

Right-click on the DVD drive when it has a DVD in it, then choose 'Open AutoPlay...'

    Then pick VLC...

Then you won't even need to double-click on it to play it, just put it in the drive..

Winuser, "Choose default apps by file type" is not applicable (as far as I know) because it's not specifically a file type that's initiating, but the DVD. I'd rather not uninstall PowerDVD at this stage, and I think there ought to be a way of changing the default setting. (Besides, there's no guarantee that another unwanted program might take its place.)

Bree, tried this, but it only works for each instance, not permanently.

AutoPlay is a permanent choice for me, should be for you too.
