Beware latest news, sports and money app updates

Overnight these all got app updates. Initially on my user acc they worked after this. But each app was broken for the other user accounts on my pc. Same on our second pc. Only way to restore function was uninstall in ccleaner and re install via store. Once again the update process of the native apps causes grief. Just in case same happens for others

    Nothing unusual.
Just go to your other Account(s) and update the Apps from the MS Store, no need for all that palaver.

Hi, the apps were already broken once going into the other user accounts. In store can try to select reinstall option but it does nothing because the apps have been corrupted by the initial update on my user account. Then returning back to my user account shows these apps now as broken for me too. Launching says they need to be repaired. It’s happened before on another machine and the only way to fix it was the ccleaner method. I have done a lot of things to try and fix them. Even as draconian as a repair install which did not help all those months ago. The native apps seem flakey and totally geared for a phone ui rather than a pc. I suppose a phone only has a single user acc so MS has done little to consider multiple user accounts on a pc and how an update to one of their apps may affect things. Unfortunately the ‘apps’ break very very easily. I don’t think many people these days use multiple accounts on a single machine so I guess these problems don’t get noticed often. But as a family with reliance on the user accounts it’s a real nuisance

Across the other user accounts? Did you receive the new updates earlier today? I tested my dads laptop earlier too and he has a second user acc on his machine. Exact same thing happened to him. He checked for store app updates, they were found and installed. Launched them all after and they were fine. Then went into his other user account and sure enough money and news (sport somehow survived!) had an ‘i’ in its live tile and refused to launch from there or the start menu. It prompted a repair was required. Then returning to his main user account he found both these apps were doing the same thing now on his. It is the act of moving to another user account after the apps updated that seems to cause the corruption. PCs with a sole user account would I guess be immune (and why the majority would never see the problem). Or even a pc that has a sole user acc and then adds a new user acc after these updates as essentially it’s a clean slate. It seems to be when an existing one is setup and logged into. Not saying it’s widespread but I’ve seen it screw up like this before. And it’s happened on three different machines. I did do these updates today quite early (UK) time so it’s possible the apps update may be fixed / more reliable from MS now. I think I got them very soon after they were initially released (I check for store app updates quite regularly)

Unfortunately in windows 10 when an app screws up I have found it very hard to return them to working state. So many methods tried before. Resetting the app sometimes works but the most likely chance is to use ccleaner to remove them and then reinstall them from the store. For that reason I would never ever buy a large multi gigabyte game from their store as I just don’t trust its flakiness. I hope not many run into this but just in case wanted to share what seemed to work. At least for me

I have reported it and tweeted ms azure as I believe these are the guys most responsible for the apps. Any approach to ms support is always a fruitless exercise. It did not impress me much as sorting this out was and is a right nuisance and I am a bit frustrated at wasting time fixing stuff like this.

    cheers
    Wayne
