I just checked out your tutorial. It shows how to scan usb memory sticks. I want to scan my solid state drive. Also, if i scan my solid state drive, the program will bring up a completely different menu. I find the program to be a bit of a mess. Anyway, i just completed the scan, and it seems to find about 58,000 files, but no rtf files or any files that i wanted.

and can i get them back even after reinstalling windows?
A reinstall replaces the Master File Table that informs where a file begins and is scattered across the SSD. With a defragmented HDD, one might get lucky to find a file across a contiguous block.

I have had 'success' using testdisk to salvage a regularly-defragged HDD, including recovering .rtf files. I have no experience in salvaging from an SSD, yet, and hopefully I never have to.

If SSD technology allows retention of previous Master File Tables, and there are salvage tools that explore these extant MFT's (NSA forensics?), one might be hopeful?

You could try puran free version
    Puran File Recovery Download

ZAR will scan , but if it finds what you need it requires a license to recover ( except photo recovery which is free)

Well, so far i like how simple and easy the program is. I did a scan, and it found a lot of deleted files, but sadly, it didn't find any of the files that i wanted. I guess the files have been deleted so long ago, that they can no longer be recovered.

When you delete a file on a traditional drive the file remains in place but the space it occupied is marked as 'available' meaning it can be overwritten when needed.

I believe SSD's are different, and it is in the drives interest to delete such space whenever it has chance to do so for the simple reason that SSD memory can not be directly overwritten, the blocks must first be cleared. If that is already done then writing to the drive is quicker, if it wasn't done the drive would have to do that first and then write your data. Have a search for 'Garbage collection SSD Drives'.

So unfortunately I suspect your files are long gone on the SSD drive.

I see. Anyway, i just did a test with puran. I created a simple rtf file, and then i deleted it and did a scan, just to see if i could get the file back again. It didn't find the file, but it does find some other files.

Didi you try Testdisk, recommended by pyramid10? I've had success with it too.
Another good choice (in my opinion) is Minitool Data recovery . Free version has some limitation, but good to try

I've tried without success to recover deleted files from SSD and I've used all sorts of methods. I like to know that when files are deleted that they are unrecoverable.

Anyway check if Trim is enabled. If it is then the only way to get your files in from your backup that you made with Aomei Backupper. You just mount the backup and browse the image.

If you didn't backup then forget it.
