    Gadgets

Are Gadgets still available in Windows 10?
I found out that the 2 folders where Gadgets were stored in 7, are still in 10:

    C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets = for ALL users
    C:\Users\Your_Username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets = for specified users

For example: I have a Death Star clock gadget I used in 7. It does not need installation, I just put the whole folder (scripts, images, & documents) into 1 of the folders above & it would work.

No, W10 doesn't natively support gadgets. MS's explanation "Not secure enough". https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...n-discontinued
There are some 3rd party possibilities though: How To Install Desktop Gadgets In Windows 10 - Win7Gadgets Blog 8GadgetPack - Gadgets for Windows 10 / 8.1 / 8 etc.

Must admit confusion about Gadgets ( or Not ).

I thought Microsoft discontinued Gadgets several Windows releases ago.

Also Gadgets are available from a separate provider
and I have 8GadgetToolPack ( Tools ) installed on this laptop ( which runs Windows 10 Pro ).

However today I logged onto a separate machine which also runs Windows 10 Pro.

Look at Control Panel. This is different between the two machines.

On this machine ( a laptop ) when I click on Programs and Features
it shows the relevant list and implicitly invites me to Uninstall any of them.

However on the desktop it is different. When I click on Programs and Features there
is a 'submenu' that includes 'Gadgets'.

So both machines have Gadgets but seem to work differently.

On the desktop, Gadget is NOT a Start-up App in Settings but is run on start up anyway.

On this laptop in Settings 'Gadgets' is indeed listed as a Start-up App
( though credited to Microsoft itself ).

To complicate things further, both versions do slightly different things
and each has different 'stuff' so that I manage to prefer bits of BOTH.

For instance, the laptop version placers a button in the middle of the desktop
which is very handy for closing the system entirely.

On the other hand, after 8GadgetToolPack opens it then opens its own main window,
inviting the user to add OTHER gadgets. I find that annoying.
