    Cortana freezes when typing in a search

    I'm having a fun problem on my shiny new Win 10 machine. Cortana freezes when I start to type in the search box.

    Is there

    1) a way to actually fix this? I've looked all over web and I don't see anything definitive
    or
    2) is there a way to replace Cortana? I'm not thrilled with the share my world with Microsoft concept anyway.

    Thanks!

    You can disable Cortana. Is the freeze related to network lag? She does require connection to Bing.

    Reinstalled Cortana using the following procedure:

    1. Open an elevated PowerShell window, press Win + X keys to open PowerShell.

    2. Execute following commands one at time.

    Code:
    Get-Process  SearchUI | Stop-Process  –Force

    Get-AppXPackage -Name Microsoft.Windows.Cortana | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
    3. Restart your computer.

    Thanks guys, that's helpful. For now I've disabled Cortana, and the plain search seems to be ok.

    I found out how to do that here:

    But if I decide to reinstall it, I've got instructions now.

    I have the same issue, reinstalling just solves it for a few days, than it happens again randomly. I have the feeling, that it just happens if you type fast and hit enter, for example, I had it two times now when I did:

    contr + enter => frozen
    notep + enter => frozen

    You cant also disable cortana. If you "disable" it cortana just turns into an ordinary search and that will freeze too.
