install software or games without overwriting data already on computer

Hi I have a problem I am buying my brothers computer with windows 10 and it has all my data from my old hard drive all moved onto the computer. But I'm getting worried if I install old software/games that I had on my old laptop using the data to remember what i had will it overwrite the whole folder or will it allow me to just not overwrite the folder where my data has been saved and just add the data that is missing or will I just have to install the whole software/game again thanks

There is no information in your system specs in your profile, we don't know what build version of Windows you are running, we don't know what version of Windows the games were installed on. Much more information is needed to assist in answering your questions...

I need to wait until I get the computer which will be next month hopefully then I will add my system specs okay. What I actually mean is I have all the data on folders that have been moved from my old hard drive to the hard drive for example save games in the computer that my brother is selling to me will It overwrite all the files for that folder when i install new software/games or will it just add the data that is missing to the computer because I don't want to start games/software from scratch thanks

The games that I had installed were on windows 7 because I was using it on my old laptop which doesn't work anymore and now I am moving to windows 10 instead to be able to play better games because I had a rubbish graphics card on my laptop and it wasn't very good to play games

The answer to your question is that it depends very much on which particular games you're talking about. You'll maybe have a different answer for each game you're talking about. I would save the game data in a separately named folder somewhere else just to be safe. Then, once each game is reinstalled, see if you can copy or import the saved game data into that game somehow.

At this point, you may be better off looking at support at the game manufacturer's website or talking to other users (in a forum for those specific games or type of games) for each game involved.

If you would simply tell us which games you're asking about, someone with experience in those games perhaps can tell you something.

It sounds like all you did was move the files to another computer. This would break the install on any game that was install in windows. Games that will run on there own with out being installed won't be effected unless there most likely not compatible with Windows 10.
Whether any software will overwrite all data or reconise and absorb the data during the reinstall would be program dependent. I would say most will just overwrite what ever you have in them folders you should have your data saved to another place if possible.
