Quicken UK 2004R2 print dialogs don't display Fall Creator Update

    Hi folks,

I recently updated our accounts computer which was running W10 Creator Edition. We use Quicken 2004R2 UK Version (last version ever for UK).

I installed the Fall Creator Update in early December and all seemed OK.

I only discovered yesterday that the Print Dialogs for Quicken just plain wouldn't display, and of course the possiblility to roll back is now past.

Much digging later I discovered that using "Run as Administrator" allowed it to behave correctly. I would much prefer not to have to do that.

    So I've two questions:

    1. What has MS done to mess this up and is there any hope they will fix it?
    2. Is there any way short of a clean reinstall to get back the Creator Edition level?

FWIW the software in question can be downloaded from:

    Hi perdrix.

    1) If it impacting a non supported program and it is the only one then the likelihood of a fix in my opinion is nil. Actually it sounds like Quicken is at fault which would further decrease the likelihood.

    2) I know of no way to do this unless you have a backup.

We recommend a tool like Macrium Reflect and then you can keep images to restore from. Not much help now but something to consider for the future.

Should you go back then you will have to prevent the immediate re-install of 1709. Not sure what you are running, Home or Pro. With Pro you could defer a year. In both you could set connection to metered. This is a short term solution as 1703 will come off support exposing your machine. 1703 is tentatively schedule to come off support September 2018. Reference this article.

While I know there are costs involved I would be looking for a replacement product.

From what I saw on Intuit's Quicken site the program is available is 4 editions, Starter, Deluxe, Premier and Home, Business, & Rental Property. The only languages shown are USA and Canada. Could be the top version would not work in other countries due to a big difference in laws. For a lot of folks Intuit's QuickBooks would be too expensive. Haven't seen the pricing lately for SAGE, formerly Peachtree Accounting.

For simple and free would be Microsoft Office templates, a spreadsheet file for a Check Register from Office 365 Login | Microsoft Office. If not having Excel it should open in any spreadsheet program such as LibreOffice Calc, QuattroPro, etc. [does for me].

That release of Quicken is really OLD !!!!! In Fact that was the first release of the Quicken product I used here in the USA (I believe it was under Windows 3.1). As Ken stated, its more likely a Quicken problem due to poor programming standards. The Good news is that you found a workaround and can still run that software product. I would not expect a fix from Quicken anytime soon, they don't want to keep an old release running for 3 years maximum then your out of luck.
