Is this a safe program to run? I just tried it on a windows 7 PC, MSE, intercepts the file and prevents the download, and If I copy the file into a folder, MSE deletes the file.
Can you tell me, can you disable MSE and run it then?
I assume win10 would do something similar?
Report here: https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/5...6713/analysis/
It's an unsigned executable which is why some AV's don't like it.
See here: reCALL Password Recovery Tool | Daves Computer Tips
I can't advise on disabling security software to run the file though as I don't use MSE.The file is flagged by 2 out of 55 antiviruses through Virus Total as a “Hack Tool” but that is pretty standard for these types of tools because antivirus engines are flagging the potential for malicious use – it is not a concern.
So did reCall show you the correct key or a generic one?
One time a MS employee on a online chat I was having about reactivating a win10 pc, took control of my PC, typed in some command and it retrieved the key and she put it in and it activated, She did it so fast I dont remember what she ran, but it popped up in a small copyable text box. She said it was permanently activated and would never trouble me again. Do you know what she ran?
Well it shows a generic key on my current machine as it has a digital license. If you have questions on licence keys you could post them in this thread:

A generic key seems like a waste of time? What is the point then of the key or program.
2 of my Win10 machines have a digital license linked to my account. I was wondering what would show up running it.
What I need to research is what is a generic key.
Windows 10 Generic Product Keys
They say you need it to setup windows 10? BUT, I have done fresh installs on legacy bios machines and setup sails through and the win10 desktop works without entering any keys? Is there some benefit I am missing?
If I had time and energy, I could do this in a VM too, which I have before.
As far as I know if you have a digital license then there is no problem with installs unless you have changed hardware:

As for that program I used it for other third party software license keys.
For VM's I reckon you need to buy a license:
Question about licence/activation on a VM Solved - Windows 10 Forums
A clean install on a W7 legacy bios machine, skipping entering a key, will install the appropriate generic key for the version you choose to install (Home or Pro). If that machine has an existing digital license for the edition you installed it will activate as soon as it can connect to the MS activation servers. If it has no digital license then the generic key on its own won't activate the system.
It's slightly different for a machine supplied by the OEM with W8/W8.1/W10 pre-installed. Such a machine will have the key embedded in the bios. Setup will read this key and use it to automatically install the correct edition for that key.
I still dont see any benefit here running reCALL, if its just showing a generic key?
And I was wondering about showkey+, if that is also displaying a generic key.
I just dont see the point here, as many generic keys are all over the net.
I did go back and check and found my original windows 7 ultimate retail key, which one of my win10 machines was an upgrade from 7. The other was an upgrade from 8.
I also have an unused win7 pro retail with its key and have wondered if win10 would still activate with it on a new PC build?
Yes, see some of the replies in this recent thread.
