I must admit, these applications with the Modern UI, make it so you really have to hunt for stuff!

Playing around with it for awhile, I find you need to hover everywhere, click on stuff, double click on stuff, right click on stuff... etc., etc., etc.

It also depends on your device and the age thereof:
I have Store Skype version 12.13.257.0 and Desktop version 7.40.0.151 on a Windows tablet - updated,
I have the new Skype desktop version 8.13.0.3 on PC - up to date,
Android Phone has version 8.13.0.1 up to date,
and my dinosaur Android tablet has version 7.46.0.596 which won't update!

I think the new 'GoSkype', as I call it, is pretty slick and powerful; the newer the device, the more features you'll have.

I have the same setup; Store 12.13.274 and Desktop 7.40.0.151. I get the Skype desktop 8.13 setup from Jimbo's link but running the .exe takes me right to Store for the v12 app. How did you install 8.13.0.3 and how does it differ from 7.40 ? TIA

Right click on the exe, choose 'Troubleshoot compatibility', choose Run in Windows 7 or 8 Mode

I've been fooling around with it hard for about a week, and frankly, I think it's quite user friendly once you get used to it.

(Doesn't have that annoying: Quit►"Are you sure you want to quit Skype, you might miss...►YES, I want to quit!!! bs! Closed is closed!)

    @mrgeek

It's gonna kick your classic Skype out; it won't uninstall it, but you won't be able re-activate it either so, keep the classic Skype exe on hand.

Thanks for the 'Troubleshoot compatibility' hint. I got 8.13 to install but it looks just like the Skype Store app 12.13 (no wonder it sends me back to Store; lol) with the addition of dozens of spam contacts that I blocked and reported. I ran them side by side to compare and that was the only immediate diff. So I uninstalled and put 7.40 back on (I keep ALL installed software exe's in case a Reset or Clean install is needed) just to have a more familiar toolbar at the top and type phone number to call feature. Thanks for clearing all that up, I can live with the extra step to close the desktop program.

    Hahhah!

I have latest Skype on Windows and Android...both suck equally much. Total garbage...

Skype was working perfectly until MS bought it...since then it has only moved backwards in usability and reliability. And lately even the visual appearance has started to move backwards.

Since I depend on Skype, I am SO ready to write my own version of it, using just the Skype SDK and protocols.

I don't know if it sucks totally but it does pale up against many other apps.

Heck, Google Allo/Duo has more features than Skype!

Why does it seem lately, that everything MS is buying up goes to sh*t!?!?!?

I have been wondering the same thing for 10-15 years...go figure.

Only thing that has gone for the better is the purchase of Xamarin. Now everyone can write mobile apps to 3 platforms with one code base leveraging .NET. And all for free because of the fusion with MS.

I installed Skype 8 then when I saw 7 was still listed in programs used REVO to uninstall it. Went to remove Click to Call and couldn't uninstall it since it wasn't installed
