Their servers are probably getting hammered, Cliff.
I gave up and canceled the download
I just wanted to try it, but no OS with a 45 at kb/s download for 2GB is worth it to me.
I mean I pay for 25 Mb/s and get 27.5 Mb/s with fibre, so I shouldn't need to download at a 5-bit baud rate speeds

As a majority of our forums Linux geeks are also Insiders, I thought it best to post this here:

    From Black Lab software:

Download page: PC/OpenSystems LLC: Merry Christmas from PC/OpenSystems LLC

For more info on Black Lab Linux: Black Lab Linux

Thanks. I downloaded and I will play with it latter.

@Cliff S this is Merry Christmas to you, but of course anyone else wanting it can use the link, too: Download the Linspire 7.0 ISO from my OneDrive: Linspire 7.0

    Note   Note
The Linux distro in question is not free. It is offered free now for two days. Based on that and my hostility towards piracy of any kind, I don't want to support it in any way and made link to expire in 24 hours. That guarantees that no one can download the uploaded ISO after the free offer has expired.

    Thanks @Kari
Just so the other people understand correctly, it is normally(outside of this offer) not free.
But once downloaded and installed, this version, and only this version will be supported until it's end of life(EOL).
And it is basically a promotional, so if you like it, tell others, even after, because this company is hoping word of mouth may increase sales.

    Installed!
Last night when I tried I had forgotten how to eject the install media during the initial restart
I tried a few times and botched things up.
Then I remembered this morning it's the "Turn off" button and not the "Shut down" button you need to use
Thanks again @Kari for the ISO, and Santa-days

Ok - I have to ask why anybody would pay for such a distro - what does it offer over normal free Linux distros other than perhaps being preconfigured?

So the people that maintain it can work on it and eat & pay the rent. And not do it as a hobby, so down the line they have to give it up because of real-life issues?

I downloaded it last night, Cliff. I think it took awhile, but since I was busy making Cranberry Apple Bread, I didn't notice how long it took. I have it safely on my hard drive, waiting to be installed on an older computer in the closet.

For me the real question, given that i would be happy to pay, is what does it offer more than Ubuntu or Mint this is not clear to me. gave it a quick try and it seems a xfce based distro.
Reading the blog they make some confusion between Free software and Open Source software, they are two different concepts.
Maybe thinks will be more clear when they will officially release it, possibly with a license.
For now it seems to me that Linux Mint or Ubuntu are better, still i may be overlooking something.
If they are working on it to make it better they obviously have any right to ask for a fee not seeing anything strange
nor this is in any way against any Free/Open source licence.
