It's an old thread, but i think this is a problem with steam, as blizzard's application doesn't seem to have any of these problems.

Well, its not your fault. Steam support was less than helpful. They said it wasn't a problem with steam, even though lots of people have reported similar issues.
I have tried it already. Steam loads way too slow compared with all my other programs. Steam support has been pretty much useless.

I have tried using both the beta and stable version of steam. I get the same problems with both versions....
