Hi just fixed a HP laptop with similar problems, cottonball has a good solution but one thing I did was to turn off the many HP apps that load up they really hog things and then updated the BIOS...

Not saying this is a solution but I had similar problems I had to low level format drive and found one mem/stick faulty

I would agree with DeaconFrost the update version gave me too many problems
Not saying its it's without any but more stable less freezing up
